my male nannacara anomala seems to be unable to lift himself off then substrate. hes been like it for about two weeks and steadily worsening. he doesn'yt eat, he sits in one place not moving and gasping. it can't be oxygen content, ive got two airpumps going in the tank. what should I do???? is it kinder to put the little fellow out of his misery? please help i'm stuck!!!

Size of tank in gallons or litries.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
Does he look bloated.
Sounds like swim bladder if he's unable to get off the substrate.
Once there breathing goes bad news.

Any signs of flicking and rubbing.
Any excess mucas on the gills or body of the fish.

the tanks about 100 litres, no fish that would hurt it, ammonia and nitrite 0, no swelling, lots of extra mucus around the body, not the mouth. copper medications are not an option as i have shrimps in my tank.

Is he rubbing himself on things in the tank.
What does his gills look like.
Does he dart around the tank.
Does he swim in a jerky movement.
Excess mucas can mean bad water quality, parasties, to bacterial.

Increase in mucus production; whitish slime (bacteria, fungus, parasites, irritants, toxins)
----Easily visible living objects on skin (parasites, as: leeches, copepods, Argulus, isopods, Monogena)

no rubbing, normal gills, no parasites, no darting or jerky swimming - he doesn't swim atall. he just sits there uprightnot on his side on the bottom of the tank

I would treat with a bacterial med then.
