(just so you know, I am not very informed on cichlids and I don't know which ones are new-world and old-world.... )

I am getting a 75 gallon most likely mid-April. In my current tank the only cichlids I have are angelfish. I like the looks of cichlids, but would prefer to have a peaceful tank. The only other peaceful one I can think of are Rams, though I know there must be more.

Also, Severums are cichlids, right? I am wondering, are they aggressive or peaceful? I have heard both. I love these fish and would gladly put one in my tank if they don't start trouble. :)

Other possible tankmates are Killifish, Tetras, Cories,

severums are peacful with fish that are at a reasonable size to them anything small like tetras are a quick snack for them the angels may get bullied of the severum a peacful cichlid in general is still aggressive for a community set up barr dwarf cichlids

sevs are generally pretty peacefull altho as with all fish its down to individual personality at the end of the day. also reasonably peacefull are firemouths jade eyeds

Probably the most mellow species of cichlid is the festivium. Blue acara's are also quite peaceful, Kribensis should also mix well enough.

Just to say that if I was speaking purely from personal experience, my severum was an absolute bully - bashing my oscar, polypterus, other severums and chasing silver dollars. However every severum is different and on the whole they are rather mellow.

For your tank if peace is a key issue then I would leave out a severum, as mentioned previously your best bet would be with dwarf cichlids.

Kribensis are very pretty cichlids and they are very peaceful, we have two in with our angel fish and they are fine. We used to have a green terror, everyone said how vicious they were but aslong as you didnt put any small fish in the tank she was fine. We had her with a fire eel, black ghost knife fish, polypterus and a pleco. They all lived happily sadly she died of whole in the head. Good luck, hope you find some nice cichlids.

whatever you do do not mix affricans with americans a few ppl i know have done that and wondered why they had a dead fish every day lol
electric yellows ive found are one of the most peaceful around and quite attractive, peacocks also are fine to have try and avoid sevs its not that i dont like them its just they remind me of zebra's (can be tempramental and dominating)
