I'm going to have to go for pets at home in stockport. They started off as Petsmart, got a really bad press from other LFSs and strangely enough changed to pets at home. I'm not sure wether it was just another company took over or they rebranded. Sufice to say that the name may have changed but the people working the have not!

Pet Smart had to change their name because a few years ago there was an undercover programme on them which showed them abusing animals. I think they were prosecuted for it.

I dont know about you, but I am sick of reading about people with bad LFS.

I'm very curious why you started a thread on the topic if you're sick of reading about it.

well im going to put my say in all of this, but its not saying a bad lfs, its a GOOD lfs, my one has bout 10 tanks, 4 cold water, i think there 5g tanks but there only tempory as they know there fish are sold fast, i havent bin in there without there been different fish! they do hamsters and gerbils and birds and bunnies and all that crap, they have even got a cat that lives there!!! i know the part owner and she knows EGSACTLY whats shes doing and helps me alot, they never treat the fish bad, clean tanks, they even put the fry in seperate tanks so not eaten if they have the odd birth, i could write another page or two about this LFS, but there is no need, this post is for all the GOOD LFS's out there, and from reading you lots posts, i only wish there were more of them!

Yeah, i live near a Superpets and they dont luk after there fish. When me an Oddball go in they have layers of algae about an inch thick and lots of skeletal fish floating round . I stopped going. We gotta new LFS and he's really good, he always gives you advice and knows wat hes on about

Not a bad response to your topic, Jae1525, but now, to balance it all off, I think you should start a new topic asking members to vote for their favourite LFSs. Just their best mind.

iv got two bad lfs's near me

one is sooo thick he calls fish by other names to make them sound more rare, ie jap fighter fish= molly
he once had oscars in with guppys... needless to say he didnt have many gupps left. he also had a giant pacu on a little 10gal.. the thing couldnt turn around!

the other one is over priced and has the normaly fish, but all tanks like most places are connected... but this one takes it to the extreame of even the cold water tanks filtration is connected... about a month ago they had a bad case of ich in one tank... it spread throught out every tank in the place.
also, they had a lovley fighter gold/green and brown in with java loaches... the fighter was obviously ill it kept goin down to the bottom, then goin up for air then sinkin down to the bottom again... the last time it went to the bottom it was swammped with java loaches they were eatin it alive!, i pointed out to the lfs assistant and all he said was ' oh its ok, i dont have to feed that tank later as they are havin there feed now'

it made me feel physicaly sick.



i agree with someone who posted, 'once you find a good lfs stick with it'. i have... and they will order me almost anythin i want.

Gezz that second one is just so sick how what the man at the lfs like it if he was that betta

All of those who seem to have problems with pets at home the one in york seems to be the best petsathome in the country, they staff at the fish section seemed to know there stuff.

ok...well, theres this really really GREAT fish/reptile store called captive reef. the lady that works there is extremely nice....not like a worker...but like a casual person, and is extremely knowladgable about all the animals she has! even gave us discounts on some items, just because. well, the first day we were there, she told us about a place called stingers that we would probably like to go to...so later that day, we go to the recomended place, stingers, and they have a great deal on ball pythons. only $20! so we get one...blah blah blah....well, we had to go back the other day because the snack isn't eating....well, after being extremely rude to us about everything, we say "well, the people at captive reef told us that blah blah blah". so they're like "DON'T GO TO CAPTIVE REEF! NO NO NO.....THEY'RE A FISH STORE AND DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT REPTILES AND SNAKES...NO...DON'T GO BACK THERE.". they have the nerve to say crap like that, when they've only been there for 4months and captive has been there for 6yrs! captive has even told them some things about lizards....and then they have the nerve to tell us, that they don't know anything about lizards....how backstabbing can you get?!

so, if your ever in michigan, STINGERS is definetly a place i'd recomend everyone to spit on when they go by....terrible place.
