Sorry for putting this in the wrong section guys. I just need a quick answer before I put him in my tank.
I went to Petsmart to get my lone ghost shrimp a friend. I was looking in the shrimp tank (only stock ghost) and saw this little guy. I bought him and now have him in a cup of his own water. Can someone ID? Is he just a mutant? Here are some pics...

He isn't clear at all, and has the dark behind his head. Not sure if that's just his organs or part of his color.

I'm not sure if he is just a bit different looking ghost, or something else?

Sorry to say it looks as though your shrimp is suffering from white muscle disease, sadly no cure and they die pretty quick from it.

Dang. He is acting fine. Will he spread it to my other shrimp? :/

From my understanding of the disease it is transmitted via shrimp eating the diseased deceased shrimp that had died from the disease, to be on the safe side I would not let it any where near your other shrimp. I would also do some checks on the disease and then either return the shrimp (or kill it humanely) to the shop you got it and let them know the problem.

Alright. I'll just return him and pick out another. Thanks for the help! :)

I am just doing some quick searches now and will post the links I find so you can have some documentation to back up your diseased animal claim.

Sorry it wasn't a great new variety of shrimp

 I was hoping I had found something interesting!
Thanks :) I think I'll just put him in my snail tank and take him back tomorrow

I'll read em over tonight! Will the shrimp be okay with snails, a betta and some endlers for tonight? Won't cause the fish to catch anything, right? Sorry, I'm in the middle of a hectic water change and can't read to find the answer for myself!

It shouldn't worry fish, not sure about snails, but where ever you do put it I would be weary of putting other shrimp at a later date, the virus responsible for the disease might be able to survive in water for extended periods of time.

No plans for shrimp in that tank, so I'll go ahead and put him in there.
Thanks for the help! Possible disaster averted!

No problem, if you do do keep the shrimp till its death maybe keep a journal on its days just to see how long it does last from its total whitening of the body, with good food, good water and reasonable temps it might last one or two months or it could drop dead tomorrow, it will be interesting for other shrimp keepers to learn from your unfortunate plight.

Also if looking up white muscle disease and not having much luck try porcelin disease.

Oh and I would probably give getting any more shrimp from that shop a bit of a miss for a while especially since you have no way of knowing how many other shrimp may also have been affected and if the seemingly healthy ones feasted on any dead shrimp either in transit to the shop from the supplier or even in the shop if any diseased shrimp died in the tanks and where not removed promptly.
