Mystery Of The Shredded Fins Solved

We've been having a move around of fish today to make room for my new boy coming tomorrow. Taro's fins mysteriously shredded last week and we moved him to another tank. This evening we put Draco into his old tank and within a couple of hours had shredded anal fins. The substrate is sand and has live plants so couldn't be that. The only think left was the heater casing.......pretty sure that as they have swum in behind they must have been getting their fins caught on it. Darco had a couple of splits when we got him and they had mended really nicely but now we're back to square one again with him. At least we know what the problem is now and can sort it out

The fins will heal in no time. At least now you can stop it from happening again.

It is a relief to know but also to let others know that have had a similar problem with shredded fins. It was the last thing we thought of as being a problem.

So it's out with the Melafix again and this time he should stay in one piece
