Hi all,
I am currently raising angel fry, I have approx. 100 2 week old fry in a 20G tank. Yesterday I was looking into the tank and I saw this thing swimming around with my fry. I looked closer and sure enough this thing had eyes! Even closer inspection revealed a tiny tummy and a clear body. It was very obviously a newly free swimming fry. It was also very obviously not an angel fry. For one, it is tiny, I can barely see it. Also the body shape is totally different, as is the fact that it is completely clear. If you look really, really close, the tail looks a bit like a pencil. The fry measures no more than .5cm whereas my 2 week old fry are nearing 2 cm.
The fry tank is bare bottomed, but I did remove a few things from a couple of my tanks. I took plants from both the 55G and the 33G. I also took a mature filter cartridge and placed it in the fry tank to ensure there were enough bacteria to take care of the bio load. I have ruled out the gourami in the 55(there is only one), and the ottos and the sae's as I read they don't breed in captivity. That leaves the boesmani's in the 55. In the 33G I have swordtails, rummynose tetras and white cloud mountain minnows.
I am leaning towards the boesmani, but I would like confirmation. The wcmm and boesmani often display breeding colours and do breeding dances. I have never seen eggs and I am still not positive how the fry got into the tank. I am not sure, but I think there may be 2 of these mystery fry in with my angels.
Any suggestions?
