Was at the pet shop today to buy a male betta and noticed a new addition to their cichlid tank. It was bright blue (sorta same color as cobalt gourami), with a white line running across the top of the body from nose to tail. Asked the assistant what it was an he said "It's a cichlid?!?". I know its a vague description but i was just wondering if anybody could point me in the right direction as i would love to have it but at the same time not risk it eating the others?

Sounds like a peacock, they've changed names so I'm not sure what the new one is but back in the day at the lfs they were referred to as "White Blaze", beautiful fish though.

Just googled peacock cichlid, not it. The tone of blue is exact but this 1 had a more sleeker body if that makes sense and a definite white line down the body, the dorsel was still blue. Like a speed stripe for fish.

Otopharynx lithobates? Aka Sulphurheaded Peacock. Some dont get the yellow on the stripe, some stay white, and juveniles or submissive males will have white stripe.

They seem to be cropping up a fair bit recently. Gorgeous fish! Very timid as malawis go!

Quite close! Same look but a dense white stripe.

Metriaclima callainos?
No but that is a very nice looking fish!
