I purchased a small fish a few years ago and was told it was a type of tetra. He has grown much larger than any tetras I've seen and is about 3" in body plus the tail. It has a cool batman cape like dorsal fin and bluish marks on the sides and is very active in the tank. I haven't found it in tropical fish books and would love to know what it is and a bit about it. Anyone seen this one before? Thanks for your help. BVG

Pretty sure it is not a tetra. I've seen it before, but it is a rarety in these parts. I believe it is some sort of barb

Looks like an Odessa Barb (puntius sp.)
Checked the internet and found a description and photo. Neither fit the fish I have.

Here is a photo of an Odessa Barb

Any other ideas?
Thanks

THE MYSTERY IS SOLVED! Thanks to Lateral Line.

The fish is a Longfin Barb or Barbus Arulius.

Picture of fish exactly like mine (link is below)

It has the same markings, same dorsal and red tinged edges on the tail and lower fin.
Thank you for the help. It is nice to know what is swimming around in the tank.
