Here's the story; I bought a fish at Petsmart about three weeks ago and have yet to identify it. (The tank didn't have a tag with it.) Since I don't have a digital camera -_- , I thought I could describe it and you all could help me out with the species :)

Okay, It's a silver, shimmery fish with one thick horizontal black line starting at the end of the back fin and goes about 1/4 lengths of the body. The back fin is shaped like a > and the fins are virtually transparent. The head is shaped like a triangle and the mouth is in the normal position, not turned up or down. It doesn't gulp air from the surface. It darts around from the top to the middle of the tank and is very docile and friendly. It is about 3-4 inches long and is very slender. Oh, it's a freshwater fish of course.

Thanks for any help,
Valerie :D

Any chance of a picture? I makes id ing fish much easier.

that description is a bit tough. if you can't provide a pic, maybe a bit more detail. is it a cat fish with barbels (whiskers) by the mouth?

fishprofiles

If this link works, add the black line and make this fish a little taller and that's close to what it looks like.
If this link doesn't work, picture a moonlight gourami with the black line and taller and that's close to what it looks like. :)

Hope that helps,
Valerie :D

i think the black line is only 1 quarter the length of its body

im cofuzzled bout this fish....not got a clue

Tek :fish:

None of those, either. I've looked through fishprofiles.com about three times and still have nothing. I'm going to look through an aquarium fish encyclopedia, see if I can come up with anything there.

-sighs-
Valerie
