I am sort of new to the hobby and I bought a Salvini and it definitely isn't what I bought him as. He is pretty though. He has prominent big black bars up an down his body. He has a bright red eye and a pinkish red throat. He loves to dig. I feed him Spectrum New Life cichlid pellet and Hikari CIchlid Gold pellet. Please tell me what he is. There is some pics of him as a baby and I have pics of him from like 3 days ago. Feel free to look at my 2 former Jack Dempseys.

At a maximum size of 4 to 5 inches, this fish is a relatively small cichlid. Mine are called Herotilapia multispinosa. The common name is rainbow cichlid. I can't tell for sure if they are the same as yours but it is a possibility.

It is definetly not a rainbow cichlid. It has a midas shaped head. I took it to the fish manager at Denny's Pet World in Kirkland, Wa. He has narrowed it down to the: Black Bar Midas, some sort of Flowerhorn or a Red Terror. He is 3 inches long and can beat the crap out of Tilapia Butterforiki. Or however they're spelled.
