Some may remember me, some might not due to my absence from the forum for a few months.

As I was feeding Oliver, my 3 year old betta fish, I noticed right under his gill, under his head, was a lump. It's hard to tell, but it looks more like a fluid filled sack then a tumor, but I wouldn't know unless I could touch it.

Oliver's been acting fairly normal behavior-wise, though more shy then average... His appetite is normal, however.

What do you think this is? Will it affect him in the long term? I'll try to get pics asap.

All you can really is try a bacterial med if the lumps are filled with fluid.
Make sure the lump don't resemble a cluster of eggs or look like a cauliflower.

Is the betta by himself in the tank, as if they burst they can infect the tank.

Thanks. I let him be for one more night and it seems to have pretty much disappeared for the most part, there's still a little lump but it's hardly noticeable... maybe he bumped into something and it swelled? I have no idea, but all seems to be well now.
