What do you think? Will they get on? Will I have enough of each breed?

Hi, my daughter has 11 neons and 4 neon rainbow in hers (she wishes she just had 2) we find these rainbow a little boring I have 8 Harlequins in mine and think that is a nice number of those to have together, as for your stocking sorry I cannot comment still learning

I am a supporter of lightly stocking tanks and that will be overstocked even with heavy stocking guidelines.
The rainbows can get a little agressive when older; the guppies will get fins niped for certain.

I would go with less fish for sure. Breeding in a small community tank is not the best either.

pmsl yes you did Boxa but you also said that about my harlequins and I do love those

Golden barbs should be in shoals of 6 or more nothing less.

the two BN's probably wouldnt get on i like to keep 1 per 20 gallon as the can be terrotorial. Also i have harlequins and there lovely they will be fine in a 6.

As long as you have a decent sized filter, then I can't see the problem with keeping quite a few fish in your tank. I have a 21g tank with several fish and two Bristlenose plecos and my tank is fine. It is quite densely planted and the BN have plenty of hiding places. They both seem to have one end of the tank each! I do regular water changes and keep the tank clean and as yet I haven't lost any fish. All my fish are in shoals and seem to get along better being kept in goups of five or more.
