My Two Fish

you cant say that, that fish is growing to grow 18" there anr many species that are said to be the "common plec".
well room temp isnt hot enough for plecs, yes it mite survive but it wont live out its full life with good health.

anyone on here will tell you you dont keep them together.
and room temp is suitable for the common plec not plecs in general and actually the heat of a heated tank increases the motabolismn of a fish and leads to a shorter life! :good:

how big is he after the year youve had him?

I'm guessing on how big by looking at them...I haven't actually measured. But the pleco looks about 8 or 9 inches and the gold fish is about 6 inches...not counting the tail.

And when I got them, the pleco was about two or three inches long and the goldfish was about the same...again without the tail.

hmmm so either way its still not right then is it?

you say cold waters suitable for a common plec - so his problem would still be a too small tank.

if its not a common plec (which it looks like it is) then its probably not suitable for coldwater afterall?

neway, its not a BN or a clown plec (think thats the other one that stays small) so either way its gonna get too big.

the tank is unheated sam!
The common plec, sam, can you give me a definate scientific/latin name? there are many species that some people refer to as common plec and as i remember, werent you the one who wanted to keep a common plec and an oscar in a 40 gallon? please dont get bitchy with me.

were you not listening? the true common plec is a hardy fish that can survive (and happily live) in cooler temperatures.

That gold fish does NOT get 18 inches. There are many different types of goldfish, this species would be fine in a 20 gal tank. Your tank will be fine for a long time, just dont add any more fish. Once the pleco starts to get big, then you may have to consider rehoming it.
SamUK, why do you always have to point out everything wrong in a tank? Next time when you try to correct someone, get your facts straight.

I wasn't trying to cause any arguements... :/

And don't worry...I'm not planning on adding anymore fish to that tank. Those two are perfectly content just the two of them. And I am happy with just the two of them in there.

lol no need to get stressed, i was bein bitchy at all!

and you recall wrong im afraid. i kno what fish are meant to have what tank sizes.

as for not listening, did you not read what i sed?

you sed coldwater is suitable for common plecs, not all plecs.

you also sed it mite not be a common to which i sed if its not a common then it wont be suitable. this is according to you!

i never sed the goldfish got to 18", i sed the plec could!

you say it will be fine for a long time yet the plec is already 8" or 9" roughly which must be nearly half the size of the tank.

and i only point out things when there wrong.

i admit i was wrong about the coldwater plec (shouldnt believe everything you read apparently) but its still too big and telling him its fine is wrong.

Okay, first it is not even close to half the size of the tank...I have a ten gallon that is 20 inches in length...I haven't measured the 20 gallon so I don't know for sure how long it is, but it is alot more than 9 inches I can tell you that. The pleco moves around in there just fine. He has no problems what so ever moving around. He can turn in there with out having to fold him self or anything. The size is fine.

Second...I'm a girl. Thank you.

didnt say it was 9 inches long but it cant be more than 2ft long orelse it must be more than 20G.

and if hes 8" or 9" then he must be NEARLY half the size of the tank.

i kno im bein an ass ( or it seems like it) but im only tellin you how it is (and im not wrong this time lol).

these pics are of common plecs.

fish can be stunted when kept in smaller tanks. luckily i think plecs ignore that rule and grow as big as they want, thats why yours is still growing.

We all know that eventually the pleco will need a bigger home. So fuman_chica will have to try and find another home for the pleco soon. I didnt realize that it was 9 inches already, in the picture it looked much smaller, the colors and shape look like a young baby pleco.

Lets all try to stop arguing before this thread gets locked. We all know that the tank is very nice, and that the pleco is in a good temporary home. So just stop arguing now and this thread probably wont be locked. :D

I don't remember the type of pleco it said it was when I got it, but it said that its full grown size would be around ten inches. So, if that was right...I don't think it is going to hurt to keep him in there. Especially if he is still being active and eating well. *shrugs* just my opinion, and I guess cuz he's my fish...

Arguments aside, that's one cute goldfish. :)

Can you take a couple more pictures of the pleco? Maybe someone can ID it for you so you'll know what exact requirements it needs. I would guess it's most likely a common pleco though.

Thank you about the goldfish. It has such a personality!!! I swear it dances sometimes!! :D

And with the pleco, I will really try to get some pictures of him tomorrow (my daughter is in bed in the room with it for the night) but it usually hangs out on the front of the tank which makes it really hard to get good pictures since the lighting is hitting on the wrong side. I will try my best though.
