here's a picture of my 10-foot "trebuchet". Trebuchets were used as seige engines during medieval times. It uses gravity (the bucket being the counterweight) as its power, and a sling instead of a bucket/"spoon" - making it able to shoot much further.

It's in pieces now, but I'm planning on building a larger one this summer.

ps-I got the idea from RotK. :)

Well done for building it. I play AOE the conquerers so i know what you mean, have you fired it and how far did whatever you use travel?

I have shot rocks over 300' - depending on how large the rock is.

I've also had two near-accidents with it. One time it backfired and landed just 5' from our car's windshield. The other time, the rock went straight up (but I didn't know it) and landed literally inches in front of me!!

bobf: yes, it does come in handy when neighbors get annoying

nice trebuchet :D do you ever go to SCA events? I've never really seen them except for some of the bigger battles.

Soooo, am I the first one who read the thread title and thought about fonts? Oo

It's pretty neat looking. I bet it was fun building it.

Looks like you did a good job on it :good: . I had to make one for school a long time ago, but it only stood 12" at the axle :) . What type of wood did you use to make it?

Judgeing by the size of that arm I'll bet that you could get alot more out of it with a heavier wieght, I built one a few years ago with an 8 inch sling and a 14 inch arm (from fulcrum to sling) and a 20 lb wieght, with that I could make it a good 50 feet.
