I am looking at buying a 3ft tank. ( 25 gallon ).

I am hoping to put in the tank maybe 7 tiger barbs a tiger pleco and was wondering what cichlids if any will go with these fish in this tank?
It will be sand substrate and planted at the sides with maybe a rock scenery at the back featuring caves.

Also in your opinion what would be more intresting, a cichlids only tank, tiger barb only or a mix?

Thanks

in a 25 gallon tank you wont have much of a choice when it comes to african cichlids. Some of the smaller julie species or the gobys such as Eretmodus cyanostictus. I also would not suggust putting fish other than african cichlids in this tank as they are liable to get killed.

south american cichilds might be a better option as they are going to have closer water temperaments as the community fish you are wanting to keep. your only problem would be that most south american cichlids get far to large fo a 25 gallon tank :(. i would suggest Honduran Red Points, in my experiences this species is one of the least aggressive new age cichlids, and they also dont get as large. I have four of these kept with 8 tiger barbs and giant danios in my 55 gallon, but i think you could do a pair of the HRPs and a school of six tiger barbs in your 25g. if these interest you, i would consider the fact that if you get a male/female pair they are going to breed, which is always fun in my opinion !
but here is picture of one of my males to give you a glimpse at the species.
