My Tank

Ok - i'm also reading up on them before getting him tommorow, and i've just read mirrors can be quite bad? The problem is, the back of this tank is a full mirror.... will this cause a lot of issues? I can't cover it up at all either..

nice filter mod :p. yes, the pantyhose work well. there is also another method that i have used.... but you look like you've got it figured out pretty well. doesn't seem to be a super strong filter.

yikes. mirror in the back of the tank is not going to be good. They are alright seeing each other (or their reflection) every once in a while... but the guy will just flare himself silly if he can always see his reflection. In a divided tank, they can retreat and leave each other alone for a bit.

I'm assuming the mirror is on the inside of the tank...? See if you can get some sturdy construction paper, cut it to size, and have it laminated. Then you can try to block the mirror with that.

You're going to want some plants in there. Bettas grow very partial to tall plants that reach the surface. you will always find them chilling in their favorite plant resting and it is often the place where they start building a bubblenest. A little plant cover would be good. As far as i'm concerned, plastic plants are fine. you just dont want anything really sharp or grabby. The best way to describe it that people throw around here is "if it wont catch on pantyhose when you run the plant across it, it should be ok".

Hmm - Well, I will get 2 plants and put them infront of the mirror which should cover it up a bit, apart from that there is not much I can do but keep an eye on him, the mirror is glued to the bck of the tank, so impossible to actually remove. I wonder if I could get some sort of back cover for it though..

I'll be picking him up lunch time, so wish me luck!

Good luck! Make sure you post some pics of him!

you can get these special double sided stickers, which you attach to some ordinary tank backing and then instead of sticking it outside the tank, you can stick it inside. they are fish safe, and supposed to be so thin, that there is no space for anything to get behind it (although i wouldn't try it with fry) the only place i have actually seen them is in DP Fishways, but i'm sure they must be available elsewhere too. (but if you can't find one elsewhere, you could try speaking to modaz?)

anyway, good luck getting your new boy today :good: can't wait to see pics when you get him home
