Hi All,

I am new to this site, I have had an Aquarium for the last 7 months and it currently has 1 rainbow shark and 9 guppies (6F & 3M), The guppies were added about a month ago and I had no issue's with ammonia spikes or anything like that. So I am now considering what else I can add that is suitable with the current tank mates and water quality.
Tank info:
Size: 3ft x 18" x 18"
Holds 191 Liters or 50 US Gallons
Temp constant 26 degrees
My readings are steady at Ammonia 0 Nitrite 0 Nitrate 20-30ppm
25% water change weekly
Eheim 2215 that's supposed to do 620L/ph with media
I have play sand as a substrate
and as above 1 x Rainbow Shark & 9 x Guppies

So what else do you think will do well in this tank?

The Rainbow Shark will limit your substrate fish

What is your water kH and gH?

This is some information I found online:

Rainbow Shark will get along with some of the loaches (Botia sp.) but other bottom fish should be avoided. Upper fish such as the medium barbs, rasbora and danios would be suitable, especially in the suggested aquascape.

These sharks prefer longer tanks so I wouldn't recommend getting another one because they could become violent.

Some Rainbowfish would be well suited for that tank.

You could even try a Bolivian Ram if the water parameters permit it.

Hi Termato,

Thanks for the advice, I have absoultly no idea what my kh and gh are, I will have to see if I can find a test for this at my lfs.

I was thinking of getting some corys but guess I will change that now and look for some upper level fish, maybe something schooling like rummynose tetras??

You can sometimes find this information in your cities water report. Look for it online before you buy something.

Getting a test kit is always good though ;)

Ok so at the weekend I found my rainbow shark snacking on 2 of my guppies, So now the Rainbow shark has been moved on to a new location.

I have also added to my tank with 4 cherry shrimp (I also added some fake long grass for them) and a Male betta (I have been keeping an eye on him and he seems fine with the guppies)

So now I am considering some schooling fish, was thinking about getting 6-8 Cardinal Tetra's and 6-8 Rummynose Tetra's as I was told these would school together.

I reckon having 12-16 of these schooling around the tank would look good.

Any thoughts?
