Do you not get lots of algae in your main tank having it right infront of a window?
I think few good size rocks from a garden center and a few interesting bits of bogwood would transform that tank nicely.......dont let 'Laurence' decorate it though....otherwise it will have horrible stencils round the top and everything covered with MDF!!
As for the heater thing, the sensor in most heaters is at the top, heat rises straight from the elements and tells the sensor its X temp, turn off, if the heater is angeled or horizontal the tank heats up to correct temp befor ethe sensor turns the heater off, ideally you should have a filter outlet near your heater as well to help circulate the heat better
The heater is by the filter outlet - I will change it so it's horizontal - thanks!
As for big mick's question - no I don't get loads of algae because there's a Chinese Algae Eater in the tank - he feasts on it!
You will probably still find you get a problenm with green water soo, has it been up and running long. Also you might whet to consider rehoming your Chinese Algae Eater .....they are bad news if its the ones Im thinking of, as I remember they are very aggressive......somebody may be able to correct me on that though?
No, your right - they do get aggressive, but don't worry he's got a home lined up when the time comes.
The tank has been set up for 4 months now and as yet i've had no problem with green water. If I do then I've got some backing for the tank that I will put on to try and cut out the direct sunlight.
Cool, we had a coldwater tank facing a window......well I say "window", almost one wall of our house is glass and when doing water changes every week you could really see the difference.
I quite like you big fake plant though but again, rocks and wood would hide trhe base and with detract from the fake look but I think its pretty cool.....not sure how it would all look with the orange gravel mind.
Definately add some more decoration/hiding spots for your main tank....It'll help all your fish relax a little more, plus they always look better when there filled up a bit. B)
