My Tank(Pics)

Hi guys heres a recent pic of my sexy tank keeping the pleco you can see but all my small fish are going out, what fish would you recommend for a tank this size?

What fish would you personally recommend?

43 gallons . . . How long is it?

Could have a red-tailed or rainbow shark on there. What about a smaller plec? Just got my hands on a stunning blue phantom

Unfortunately even 40 gallons isn't enough for an adult common plec. They need about 90-100 gallons because they get to 12"-24". Planning an upgrade?

What about a pair of larger gouramis? Some headstanders? Some mid-sized botias and loaches? Might get away with a shoal of congo tetra but I'd check on that one. Seem them in 100 gallon tanks before and they really filled the space.

It's not a small tank but still isn't big enough for "large" fish. You're limited to fish that are 6"-8" MAX.

Agreed on the common pleco - it will get too big for that tank unfortunately. Are you going to be upgrading?

You have a lot of decor in the tank, so maybe smaller fish would be better? A couple of tetra schools maybe, and maybe a gourami or pair of dwarf cichlids?

keep the smaller fish and re-home the plec,its cruel keeping it in that tank.
there are nice smaller plecs you could keep that would be far better suited to that tank size.

the tank is 48" long i understand the plec is going to get bigger, but he was one of my very first fishy haha its about 17" last time i measured, im not upgrading as this is in my bedroom along with a 60litre. im thinking of moving the castle one half in my other tank leaving one in, the plants seem a lot they getting moved also. im not enterily sure the exact size of the tank, i know it says 40 odd gallong but think i worked it out wrong a long time ago i aint changed it since i signed up here

edit: thought tank was bigger, its a 260 litre tank apologies if you started working it out

Sorry mate, but it doesn't matter if you love him more than you love your own parents. A general rule of thumb is to give the fish 6 times their own body length to swim. He's not even got 3 times his own body length. With plecs you can bend the rule a bit as then don't tend to move as much but 40 gallons is still far too small, especially as he is already so large.

Would you keep a cat in your closet because you loved it and didn't have anywhere more suitable for it? Probably not.

Generally a heavily planted tank is absolutely fine for fish. The more plants the merrier. It's the larger, more solid decor that will limit your fish choices.

Sorry if I seem rude but the only reason we can even have this dispute is because we are talking about fish. If it was a cat, dog or horse in a too-small space you'd be considered to be violating its welfare by more than just the crazy fish people.
