This is my 20 gallon tank. Its planted with Vallis, Water Wisteria and Telanthera lilacina. I have 3 substrates; bottom layer of Tetra Plant Substrate, middle layer of very fine gravel and a top layer of aquarium sand. I have a number of rocks, slate and stones in there which I have made a wall of caves and some sand lying rocks out of. The filter is a Sicce Shark Filter 400 ADV which was already matured when I had it. The heater is a 150 Watt Visitherm Heater/Thermostat and the light is from a 20 watt white light. Between the light and the plant substrate, the Wisteria and Vallis are growing abundantly (I have to prune at least once a week) but the Lilacina is not doing so well. I have no CO2 injection.
The livestock at present is 3 Bolivian Ram who are excellent fish. They watch me all the time and are beautiful fish. I bought these from Tri-Mar. They have their scraps every now and then but are peaceful most of the time. There are 7 zebra danio in there. 3 are from on LFS and the other 4 are from Tri-Mar. The 3 from my LFS are alot smaller than Tri-Mar's, theyve been in the tank now for over a month and haven't grown. I have one three lined cory at the moment. Originally, I had 3. 2 got stuck behind the original rock wall I made and died. The wall has been changed now as it also killed 5 Cherry Shrimp. These Cherry Shrimp hid from the Rams (Tri-Mar told me that the Rams would ignore them and the Shrimp would live happily with them). It seems, after moving the rocks to find a lost cory, that the Shrimp simply grew out of the space that they hid in and basically squashed themselves on the rock. The tank was a right mess after that discovery and the smell was appalling. After a few huge water changes, things have settled and the fish are much happier. I plan to up the Cory stock as soon as funds allow me too although Im worried about overstocking so may leave things as they are. I have 4 Oto in the tank as well. They were bought from Tri-Mar and seem very happy. Theyve been in there a month now and have grown a great deal from their tadpole looking size when I first got them. They are a lovely looking fish and much better than plecos in my opinion. The fish are fed on Aquarian Fish Flake once a day, Tubifex once a week and Tetra Variety Wafers three times a week. The Rams love the wafers and actaully swim around sucking them in their mouths which is comical to say the least. I also put in some cucumber once a week for the oto.
Finally, 5steady is sending me some Malaysian Trumpet Snails which should arrive by the end of the week. No doubt Ill be hunting for homes for their offspring in the coming months.
All in all, Im very happy with the set up. I came back to fishkeeping after 3 years off. I kept fish for 5 years before that and made all the timeless mistakes we all make in this hobby. Im still making them now!!! This is definatley the best set up I have and I am now considering getting another tank to house inverts or amphibs.
These are pictures of the tank and some of the fish. Unfortunatly, the Cory is very shy and the Danio are just impossible to catch.
Sorry about the long winded post, just have jack all else to do today lol.

Looks good. Water wisteria is one of my favorite plants too, my only issue with it is that it grows too fast. :)

The rock formation is just screaming for some Anubias and/or java fern in my opinion. The darker green would be a nice contrast for the wisteria.

Ill have a look into that. Theres only one bunch of Vallis there with a stalk of liliciana so I could always put a bunch or two of java fern or anubias there. Never heard of Anubias before but Ive heard Java Fern is easy to maintain.
Wisteria is excellent. When I read about chopping the top off, discarding the bottom part and planting the top part; I was really nervous that this wouldnt work. Its not only worked but Ive grown new bunches by planted the bits the fish have accidently broken. Im having more problems with my Vallis growing. I pruned it two days ago and its already reached the height it was back then. At least I know its healthy. Its just the Liliciana that Im having trouble with. It just doesnt want to root and gets uprooted too often and too easily.

Its official name is Alternanthera reineckii I think. It's a somewhat demanding plant in terms of light and nutrition, so it's not surprising that it's doing worse than the others.

Anubias and java ferns don't need to (and shouldn't) be planted in the substrate; you can plant them directly onto rocks (they attach themselves to any rough surface). You could wedge the rhizome between two rocks, or use weights or rubber bands to hold them to the surface of a rock until they attach themselves. Sometimes this means planting them in a stupid-looking angle such as pointing straight to the side, but the leaves will eventually align themselves to the light and look natural again.

Ive got some new pictures of my tank. Ive moved the Wisteria around after trimming them last. Also, Ive planted some off cuts of the Vallis around, ive tried having a bigger gap around them so the bottom leaves dont die and rot. The lilicina is actually doing ok and growing, well the two stems i have left!!
Im seriously becoming bored of what I have. I want something different but havent got the cash for a new tank. I really want inverts!!!

Nice view when you sit down. If theres a TV u probably just watch the tank :hyper: . Very nice and love the plnats. :good:
Well, the Tv is on the same wall as the tank with a bookcase sepreating them. The sofa lies on the wall that connects the tv and tanks wall with the sofa closest to the tank. I often drift my eyes to the tank and end up watching it for hours. Most of the time Im just thinking how i can improve it!!!
I so badly want inverts in there. I just want something different. Dont get me wrong, the Bolivian Rams are by far the best fish that Ive ever kept but they just arent mysterious enough for me!!
By the way, just got a placement at a day nursery. they have a tank with enormous goldfish in. The tank is tiny for them so I have volunteered myself as official fish keeper. I think ill have some fun with that tank. Its in my room, the 3 to 5 year olds. think they will like crab or crayfish? :hyper:
