From what you describe, I think you're well stocked at the moment, definitely on the heavy side, so I wouldn't mess with it if I were you. Could be time to start thinking about that second tank instead! :hyper:

fish are only 2 inches long if that but ill just leave it alone then

We are just considering their adult size, and thats what you must consider when you get any fish. If you overstock a tank, more waste is produced, which is toxic to fish.
When people say its overstocked, their not being rude, their just explaining that adding more fish to an overstocked tank will be adding more waste to a potentially harmful situation for the fish in its current state. Maybe you could invest in getting another tank, and that way, you can sort your stocking situation out in your current tank and get the pleasure out of looking at a newly designed tank :) Good luck with what you decide :good:

Do you have any pics of the "electric blue" that you can post. There are several different species that can be labeled that way. That's why it's important to use scientific names, and yes, you don't have anymore room in your tank. It may look bare now, but just wait until everyone hits sexual maturity, I promise you it will be exciting.

Very good point! :good:

Absolutely. I certainly hope I didn't come across as rude, just wanted to point out that the tank is on the full-side, but as it's working now then no reason to change it or upset the balance by adding anything new. I stock my tanks quite heavily myself, but with over-filtering and good water change regimens it can work out fine. However, it would be bad advice to suggest adding anything to the current tank, but on the positive side that's a great excuse to buy yourself a new one! :D

i agree you are fully stocked and i was wondering how your filtration looks. When they become adults they will eat more and produce more waste and if your filtration is not sufficent you will have problems.

to Luke

I was reading on the internet that you should have 2 cm of fish for every gallon (work out the size they get for example - angelfish : grow to 15cm so that would be 15L.), you should work this out before you get anymore fish.
if you cannot get hold of the fish you would like to keep, then i would think about other fish which look similar...
also is your tank a marine or tropical freshwater?

thanks

Jess

Sorry Jess, this thread is over a year old, I'm sure the tank has changed. Oh, and mbuna tanks are generally overstocked due to aggression so the standard stocking "rules" don't apply. :good:
