My Tank Is Cycled, Now What?

could i get like 6 pygmy cory's and like 6-7 neons.

Reading up on pygmy cory's they only get to be like .75 inches.

that might be a few too many in the 10 gallons, it depends weather you over filter or not. If you ask in the specific sections for the corys and the tetras some more experienced people will be able to help you.

Just a quick note.. if you cycled the tank with fish and the fish have died, whats keeping the tank cycled? Sounds like when you add more fish you will be cycling the tank again.

Testing your water is not the only factor to consider. I could put some tap water into a tank, test it, post the results, and many people with presume the tank is cycled. In a non-mature tank I would stay clear of neons.. Although cheap and common fish, they are not a fish that works well in new tanks. I would expect further casualties if you went in that direction.

what happened was i had 4 tiger barbs to start with and one died because i wasn't home for 2 days and the ammonia spiked.

Then there were only 3 left, and they were all wayyyy to aggressive to each other, the 2 that died like days apart had ripped fins, and then the other one had ripped fins from all the fighting and stuff they were doing. He just died like 2 days ago, and it was probably from too much stress and not being in a big enough group.

I can get more fish to cycle it though if need be.

Try a fishless cycle.. see the the pinned topics in this section.. it takes a while, but its worth it.. If you are going to use fish, try something a little more hardy like danios..

Good luck

I bought 2 zebra danios to keep the tank cycling, and i bought some new sandish type gravel and 3 plants.

Tank is all cloudy and crap right now so i'm just letting it cycle right now. I got some driftwood i use to use in my lizard cages sitting in super hot water right now. Would it be ok to add this in the tank?

I got these 2 plants called "frills", and this one plant that looks like a "psalm" you get on pslam sunday at church. I'll post pictures of them in a little while.

Edit: Pics of the plants i got, and the sandish type substrate i added

If the driftwood is made for reptile tank etc. then I would boil it many times over before putting it in the tank. It may contain chemicals not safe for fish.

No i believe it was originally made for a fish tank. I got it from my aunt a while ago before i had fish. It's like actual wood, it's not plastic or anything. I use to have them in my one lizard cage for when my one lizard was smaller and needed somewhere to sit. Other then that i have had them sitting in a shelf in my closet. I've stuck them in super hot water i got out my tub like 4 times now and let them sit for like an hour each before dumping the water out and refilling it.

I know some petshops that sell real driftwood for reptile tanks that may not be safe for fish tanks. Just make sure the driftwood you're using was made for fish tanks and not reptile tanks etc. It's just a precaution.

Keep checking those stats though, and keep up with some small water changes. They maybe hardy fish, but danios need love too.. heheh.. just ask the danio wolf man!!!!

Can anyone tell me about the plants i got what there actually called?

Hmm... i just woke up and the water in the tank is cloudy as crap and i dunno what caused it. It was becoming less and less cloudy last night and didn't look to bad when i went to bed last night, but now it's super cloudy again.

Bacterial Bloom? search the forum for info on it.. you will get plenty of results i'm sure.

hmm... mabye since i had just woke up it looked cloudier. I just got home from school and it looks fine now.

I added that driftwood in, i'll post up a pic of what it looks like in a min.

Edit: took my zebra danios out while i added in the drift wood and snapped some pics of what it all looks like.

Edit 2: Still need help on identifying the plants i purchased. Also i just did some reading about filters. The one i got from wally world works but it uses charcoal, and i just read it has to be replaced very often. I have had mine for a month and 3 days running. When do i need to change it and how exactly do i need to change it to keep the bacteria in there so my tank doesn't cycle again.

Edit 3: i THINK that the 2 green frilly lookin plants might be Brazilian Milfoil aka parrot feathers. Can anyone confirm this for me.
