Well I rescued a little guy from Walmart because he had no tail! He is otherwise healthy and moves well so I am happy I got to him before he got an infection. His tail is already starting to heal up and I'm treating him with salt and some malachite green to ward off infections and such. His name is Reef and since I am soon to be dividing a 10 gallon three ways for my other two lovelies, I thought a third betta was in order also. I am told by others that his tail should be back in full in about 4-6 months so I will post updates here. He is a light reddish orange with pinkish irridescent flanks and blue eyes, here you go:

He is quite shy so I have to hold still and wait forever to get even a half decent pic so I apologize for the blurriness!

So what do you guys think?

good god! what exactly do wal mart do to there fish!!!!

gotta say though other than the tail he looks in perfect condition a very nice red colour look lighter than the normal reds you see about :good:

Yeah, he's more orange than red. I named him Reef because his color reminds me of a coral reef.

he's a very pretty boy, even without a tail. and how exciting waiting with baited breath to see what tail type he turns into!

i hope you made them give you a massive discount due to his condition though

I have reported my lfs for having three betta like this in their 'care' one was head down in the tank no tail at all, the second was stuck by the pump and the following week another trying to swim around.

Hope your little fella lives a long and happy life :)

I'm sure he's a Veiltail and I didn't ask for a discount because he was only $3 anyways. I knew he would make it so he was worth it. He is my second rescue, my first little rescue was so covered in fungus that he didn't make it more than a few hours. Since my Walmart has a 90 day money back guarentee I got my money back for him. Not that it mattered to me, if he had made it I would of been keepin him or adopting him out.

My little Reef is looking better and better. He's also learning to eat from the surface like other bettas, I've had to feed him pre-soaked pellets so they'd sink because he refuses to come to the surface. I worry because sometimes he just sits at the bottom and doesn't breath from the surface for like 30 minutes or more. He just uses his gills like other fish. He is quite scared of me so he dives for cover when I come to feed him. Hopefully he'll get used to me soon.

he looks kinda orange or is that just the pic? hes beautiful by the way :good:
