My Small Planted Shrimp Tank Journal

jenclibee...

instead of neons why not go for something that would be more suited to the tank, that are a little rarer and better looking IMO

ember tetras! theyre really colourful little fish and im guessing that cube is about 30 litres? you could have 15 in there.
or galaxy rasboras, or any micro rasbora sp.

great job on the tank looks great!

Thanks truck for the suggestions and the comment :), the ember tetra's are actually quite nice, i'll have to see if i can find any about :)

Really Nice, where did you go for the rainbow shrimp?

Hey gill, they were from MA in earlswood.

Well having a little trouble with the CO2 unit not producing bubbles, had a little scout around on the interent and alot of people are having same trouble do to with the activator and the stabalizer powders supplied that are out of date and not working :(, this is the case in mine.

So ive decided to do my own mix which again i found the quatities on the online..... same level sugar added but add 5ml of bakers yeast and luke warm water.

Done this now so we will see if this makes any difference. Do these quantities sound ok?, others have said they had excellent results with the same unit and same quantities so fingers crossed this will work :)

5ml is about the same as a teaspoon isnt it? 1 teaspoon is the reccomendation anyway.

Yes 5ml is about that, it said anythink between 2.5 and 5ml but im one to go for the highest just to see wot the effects are lol :p. Cheers aaron for confirming this for me :), very much a noob and like to make sure just incase.

look at georges pin in the planted section.

Will do mate cheers :).

Got my first inhabitants today 3 green shrimp and 3 rainbow 2 of which are carrying eggs ( i think there eggs anyways lol)
Very nice tank, I don't mind the layered look either. Unless you don't mind crossbreeding and hybrids, stick to one of though two species though :).

Rainbow shrimp are nice, I have a few myself

Cheers m8.

Just an update on the CO2 since using the mixture i made.... it seems to be working perfect, bubbles are starting big at the bottom of the bubble counter and gradually getting smaller at the top. I presume the bubble are gradually diffusing, is this whats ment to happen?

Thanks once again all for taking the time to look and make such nice comments :)

Never kept rainbow shrimps but I think give them a few more days to settle and it might be easier for someone to id them. Shrimps tend to colour up nicely when settled. Rainbows quite often change colour too.

Yeah, rainbow shrimp are odd to ID :D.

The body shape of yours looks a bit different, but closer detailed pics would be needed to tell for sure.

Are they all the same colour right now?

They pretty much look like the picture above since ive had them and in the shop, quite see through and got like tiger shrimp lines across the back (you can sort of make it out in that pic), they have the black/brown mark just below the head/neck.

Full tank shot now since the tank was fully filled and virtually cleared from the sand :).

Sorry about bad quality photo's camera is complete and utter pants :p.

just to re-ask a question that im just curious about.....

Also....

Now the tanks running and CO2 seems to be working ok, would i need to dose with any think? ie easy carbo, seachem flourish etc etc (i have shrimp in the tank will this restrict certain things i can add).

Sorry for all the questions :) but i really am a complete novice and just want to make everythink perfect to maximise growth :).

1 more thing ive herd alot use the nutrafin CO2 whats people opinions on them?

Thanks again all

jen

Wow the substrate looks like some kind of toffee! I love the plants they look great, are you going to have any fish? Or just snails and shrimps?

LOL

I was thinking about a nice shoal of neons but im thinking tank maybe a little small for them? but would be around 6-10.

Why not try to get hold of some brigitte rasboras - mine are excellent and i haven't seen them munch a shrimp yet - the neons will munch baby shrimp when they can catch them and also sometimes nibble the eggs off the shrimps

here's a compatibility chart that tells you which interbreed and which are safe - from planet inverts
