I went to Petsmart today to pick up some stuff for my 10G and to get the rescue betta. Most of the bettas are just sort of in cramped containers, but not exactly ill, so I narrowed it down to two. Number one was a baby, yellow-with-opaque fins that had a bit of finrot on his dorsal, and the second was a sort of unpleasant, dirty red colored CT with what looked like uncomfortable fin rot. I got him. Without further ado, I present Larry.

He got vertical stripes after looking at his reflection. Typical CT.

He's being treated with that Mardel medicine.. I can't remember the name, and salt.

there fins look weird. (to me) I have never owned a CT so i am not to sure about there fins.

ok thats what I was thinking but I know nothing about CTs so I thought they might suppose to look like that.

Yeah, the only coloring I've ever seen that has black at the end is silver dragons... I saw it with my SD..

Are you confused about the rays? the long tendrils that come from the fins? If so then, nothing to worry about there.. that's just a CT for ya :)
He's such a unique looking lil guy KJ. I hope he makes a full recovery!

New update:

He got a patchy sort of fungusy spot on one of his blackened tendrils, or I just noticed it. :dunno: I'm guessing a fungus of some sort. I'm dosing with salt and Maracyn, could I mix Jungle Fungus Clear with it, as I believe it treats fungus ( MAYBE) or will the two meds not work? Otherwise, he's been staring at Ares but not flaring, and he ate about three pellets last night, three this morning. So hopefully he's doing good. His red also started to get more brilliant, though I can't exactly say he could win a prize. He has a heater in his tank, but I'm fiddling around with it because it says the temp is 75 and I sort of want it up to 80, for hopefully healing is wounds quicker.

HE FLARED! :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: He's got pretty good finnage, but because of the FR I don't want to flare him too much, it might stress his fins out.

Pictures of the elusive Larry flaring! :hey:

He looks like once he's healed up he's going to be a show-stopper!
I noticed in one of your pics he's got the same golden dust look to his fins that my Darby has which I think is Velvet. (Treating him for it with aquari-sol right now), but he's also my first fish, so I really couldn't say if it's normal or not...

You mean the greenish dust? I'm pretty sure that's just his coloring, as from my experiance, green/red fish are really common. He doesn't seem to be exhibiting velvet, but I wouldn't be surprised. I have some velvet-treating meds just in case.

Edit: Actually, I don't, but I can buy some if need be. I shined a flash light on him, it doesn't seem to be gold, but the characteristic green. I'll look for pictures of velvet.

I found some symptoms:

# Scratchs against hard objects [[ Doesn't seem to be, but he does like hiding in plants, and then sitting in the front of the tank for about five minutes.
# Fish is lethargic [[ He's shy, but he likes to flare.
# Loss of appetite and weight loss [[ Skinny, but I've had him for only a day and he's already eaten 7 pellets.
# Rapid, labored breathing [[ No...
# Fins clamped against body [[ Not really.
# Fine yellow or rusty colored film on skin [[ It's greenish on his base of fins, I think it might be his coloring.
# In advanced stages skin peeks off [[ No.

The third picture from the top is the one I recognized it on. Darby is blue and red, so now I'm starting to wonder if I diagnosed him wrong... Gah!

I took some pictures of it, would you mind telling me what you think?

It does look a bit like velvet. When the light changes, does it look more blue? That's why I though it was just Larry's coloring, when he moves it turns blue, and green fish look blue without flashlight, etc. I would continue treatment unless he starts looking like it affects him.
