My Rekord 60

i was so lucky to find the HC. they are really popular but hard to find. my local garden centre which also has an aquatic centre had a shipment of 160 random aquarium plants today, and they had 8 to start with and when i got there , there were 2 left i snapped up a pot at 3.99 a pop.

hey nick that ramshorn is one of those i bought from you. :good:

cool, how are they doing? get rid of the common snail!!

the ramshorns are going well thanks. one has got lost in the filter some where ill have to find him. but the garden snail cant breed he's on his own. but the pic doesnt show the extent of his shell the tip his snail is twice as long as it is wide

Might need to plant the HC again.
Check out this article by George and it shows how he has planted the HC the best way.
Don't know if 15W of light will be enough for it to grow compact and carpet. :/

ive used my method before and it worked fine. and also im buying new lights im gettin 4 arc pod 11w t5s so 44 watts in total. and they have low to high light requirements. i have grown hc successfully in this tank before

I would agree. The best way to plant them is in separate plantlets, so you get an even spread. You'll need small tweezers for this as they are so small.

4 arc pod 11w t5s? Ouch, expensive.
low to high light requirements, yes, but in the low lighting the HC might survive but I seriously doubt you'd get the good, compact growt. It would just be leggy.

That's what you think, snails are Hermaphrodites

oh crap! they are arent they ill pick him out

i dont really want to plant every single little plant could i say out 2 or 3 together then put them in?

ive redone the HC and i am buying some better lights on wednesday. i shall be getting 2 arcadia arc pods. and will add another two at a later date, as money is tight. i will also be adding some cherry shrimps on wednesday and maybe a cave for the ancistrus.

thanks. i really want this time to be a success. the lighting will be 22watts on wednesday and ill add another 11 watts the week after. do you think 2.75 wpg is enough for HC or should i get 4 for good measure. but remeber theyre t5s instead of the old t8

Should be enough lighting as long as CO2, nutrients and maintenance are up to standard.

small update.

yesterday i bought 5 cherry shrimps which i hope to breed. i will get pics up soon as there hard to focus on.

i also bought one arc pod. 11 watt. they didnt have 2. so ill get 2 more next time. the fish look brill under the new light, but im keeping the hood at the moment as theres more light coming from that than one 11 watt .

the shrimps colours look great under the new light. but sticking with the old one at the moment

thank you to the female cherry shrimps which let me take photos of them :good:
