Yesterday my son yelled to me that my Paradise Gourami had jumped out of the tank and was on the carpet!  So he picked him up and put him back in the tank right away.  I ran up to check on her and she seemed to be in a bit of shock but slowly swimming around.  Still, her color was dark but not "bright" if that makes sense, and she certainly wasn't herself.  I checked on her every hour or so and she seemed to be okay but hanging out in an area and not really moving around.  The next day she was dead, on the bottom face up.

My wife had originally found the fish on the carpet, who knows how long it was there.  The better question is how did it get there?  The only openings on the top are the slits at the back for the hardware and heater.  They aren't more than 10 by 1 inch.  And even if it got through the tiny slits how did it end up out in front instead of behind the tank since those are across the back?

I'm so upset...............

Really sorry to heat that :( does seem like a mystery :/

Sorry to hear that. It's always sad when that sort of thing happens, especially when it's a prized or beloved fish.

I'm really sorry for your loss

Sorry to hear that man.  Do you have a cat?  I've caught my girlfriends cat trying to open my lids before.

Yeah we have a cat but he's kinda fat and lazy.  I don't see him getting all the way up there.

So sorry about your fish :(
Unfortunately these things happen and all you can do is make sure it doesn't happen again - even though it wasn't your fault at all.
I hope you feel better soon!

Thanks everyone, I'll post some pictures of "Banshee" the female Paradise Gourami in a little bit.

Sorry for your loss!
My guess is it might have jumped out and "flopped" all the way to the location you are describing..
Poor fish, the fall must have been painful!

Some pics of one of my favorite fish I've ever kept, Banshee:

The last one is the most recent, maybe a couple of months ago.
