i have lost quite a few number of fish this week and i dont know why. i had my water tested all was wrong was nitrate was high so was given some stuff to put in tank but there still dying

would this be because of the fish were exposed to nitrate ??

i have lost all but one my neons (black & blue), cherry barbs and a few danios

all that left is 1 blue neon, 4 black widows, and 2 huge plecs

it all started when dad gave me some of his plants out his tank but i cant see if it them or not ?

the fish showed no signs of diease one was swiming around ate then died

tank looks so empty :-(

Size of tank in gallons or litres.
How many fish and which type.
I would take a sample of your water to the lfs and tell them to write the readings down for you.
How long has the tank been set up.
Don't need to buy products for nitrate, water changes and a gravel vac.
If filter sponges are really mucky just rinse one of them slightly in old tank water.
Also I would invest in some liquid test kits of your own.

Any symtoms to go on.

hmm think its 120 lt
now only has the fish that i mentioned left

did lose 5 blue and 5 black neons and 4 cherry barbs

tank been up and running a year now still go the black widowa and plecs when tank was first set up

Think I know what causing your high nitrate reading the plecs if there massive, they are big waste producers.
How big are they as the tank might be to small for them now.
How often do you do a gravel vac as with big plecs you need to be doing a gravel vac at least once a week.

i do it once once a week
i would say 4 or 5" might not sound huge lol but they look it

thank for helping bt the way

but yes they are very messy

Did the lfs say how high your nitrate reading was as over 100 it can start to get harmful to fish.
Do you know if the lfs used liquid test kits or them strip cards which are not accurate.

all he said was ammonia was spot on but nitrate was sky high
i think they use liquid ones he took it in the the back thou

might get them to try again 2mora

Keep up with water changes.
If nitrate was sky high that could explain the deaths of the fish.
Yes take a sample of tank water to the lfs and tell them to write the readings down for you this time.
Also make sure the lfs are using liquid test kits and not them strip cards.
Until we know full water stats would just be guessing at why they died.

Have you had your water tested yet.

no i might go out later and get it done if not will do 2mora

thanks for your help wilder

if all ok how long should i wait to get more?

It depends on your water stats.
I wouldn't get any this week.
Don't forget to ask the lfs to write your readings down for you.
