My Pond With Added Sturgeons!

The fish are looking great!

Just a question though.

When I used to go fishing for sturgeon I used to use dead goldfish as bait, as they are predatory. Will this not be a problem?

Steve

they will certainly scavange dead goldfish, but so would many other fish that aren't necessarily predatory, doesnt mean they will attack big koi, goldies or orfe. I bet if you put a dead goldfish in a tank of platies they would start feasting on it, but they are hardly going to turn nasty on another equally sized or larger fish.....

Yeah!!! More pics! What a tremendous undertaking..... and inspiring too. Do you think you could make a glass-enclosed submersible camera? If I make a pond that's going to be one of the requisites.

I think a camera would be something to do in the summer as at the moment it's too dark , so anything below 1/2ft a camera wouldn't pick up without sticking a light on there to pee the fish off!

Will take some more pics as the landscaping progresses.

The pond is looking pretty amazing hun and the sturgeon is a cutie. Can't wait to see more pics. No wait, I can't wait to see the actual pond!
:good:

Still unsure about Pinky and Binky for names though...
:p

No chance on getting any caviar? Mmmm caviar....

Your pond looks great! Though seriously, my inclination is to harvest the roe on the sturgeons. Note to self, sturgeons perhaps not the best fish for me to keep. Ever! That leaves out Salmon, trout, perch, bass, large catfish too; any food fish really.

Warmest,

llj :)

i believe caviar only comes from the beluga sturgeon i think or so ive heard.
great sturgeons.the first few pics made it look huge.

Though that is true, there are also other sources of caviar from different types of fish. I often enjoy a nice lumpfish caviar, or even some salmon caviar on occasion. I read that in an article in an airport magazine. Viva Caviar! No fish is safe! Muhahahaha

I come for your sturgeons Paul....
