How are the slate stacked? Could the plecs be hiding in the slate and using it for caves? Have you looked into your tank at night?

what type of plecs are you adding?
how big are they?

were i stacked the slate so notting could get in well theres a bit so the discus could get in but it huge and i could see it they hide inside.

nope i havent looked inside at night i will have to try

thanks

Plec.s love caves. That's probably where they are. They can fit into some pretty tiny spaces as well.

good luck!

Lol this topic made me laugh. Wheres my plecs?
Anyway, they are probably hiding in some caves somewhere. I hardly ever see my plec at night or day he usually gets frightened very easily. He sleeps in the cave with the clown loaches which i find very cute.

4discus ina 120L tank ?!?!?!?!?!?!?! my god man!!! that aufel then need a planted tank not a slate tank and the need alot of room as they grow to 25cm each

I was thinking along a similar line, those Discus will outgrow that tank..

I would keep an eye on those water stats, as the plecs may will be lurking somewhere. I added some bristlenose fry to my cory tank a week ago, and they seemed to vanish into thin air. I thought they had possibly been too young to be moved, succumbed to stress and their bodies eaten by the shrimps. Felt a little guilty, but then again, there are so many fry I have to try and spread them out a bit. Today they were all three sitting on the glass when I went in, looking a good deal fatter than I remembered them. Also, a juvie from the August batch- officially no survivors- turned up today in the main tank. Clearly, it's amnesty day for plecs today. My point is, though, that even invisible plecs will be adding to the bioload, so keep an eye on the nitrates.

Lol invisble plecs add to the bioload

Anywho.. like everyone else, i'm pretty sure they're there, but in a place where u just miss them :)

Yup. My Bristlenose spends the daytime stuck to the back of my bogwood. Took me weeks to work out where it was he was hiding! His new trick is to dig in the gravel under the bogwood and hide there. I see him in the evenings and at night though (actually he's particularly active tonight!!).
