My Pleco Keeps Trying To Clean My Datnoid...

So?

It should show you that they are clearly being stunted as that's not a good growth rate!

And what's with all the caps, keyboard messing up?

But how can they be!? I think thats a pretty decent diet, i've had fish on straight goldfish diet, not gutloaded in any way grow WAY faster.
They grow an inch or so every month or two with clean water and good feeding and yeah they grow, just saying there's no stress on the size of the tank for a good while until we make the pond, more than 6 months.

The shovelnose mind you is still pretty small compared to the redtail, And the red tails growing has already slowed down a bit, the fish store had him in like....MAYBE a 40 gallon. if that.
I think that may have had somethin to do with it.

all im sayin is the shovelnose has some time untill he needs a bigger tank, going off of past experience with how long it took for them to grow. And they have a pretty okay diet i think...Ive got the goldfish for protein, the pellets for kelp and veggies and other stuff like that and then the bloodworms are GREAT protein and are gutloaded with vitamins and they're sterilized. Water changes every 2 weeks or a week and a halfish, depending on feeding.

I just think your overestimating how big they grow. Like, yeah i know they get pretty big, both of em. But they don't outgrow a tank that size THAT fast. Unless your feeding them all day long all the frikken time and who has the money for that?

And I agree that redtails should need somewhat of a restriction or something like that that decides who can keep them, I knew they got huge when we got our first one, but i've seen people buy these cute little tiny catfish at the store and then 5 months later BAM they're almost a foot long! Then they have to get rid of them. :[ Or the fish store should at least make sure you have a big enough tank. The first one we got grew like craaaazyyyyy but he was a baby. Once he got around a foot he just started plateauing.

Fish store.

It was like a year or two ago, didn't have money to buy another tank and he was almost big enough to eat the arowanas...

Name almost says it all for me. All hail the impending hostility of this tank.....

Shame.

??#136### are you talking about!?
All my fish are healthy, they all look gorgeous and my water is clean and they all get along?

You say that, but you started this thread becuase you claim the Plec keep trying to "clean" the Dat. Getting along fine are they?

How is it hostile? Because i buy fish that get big? Its not like I don't have a bigger tank to put them in when they grow.
No, you've assumed that yourself, and we all know assumption is the mother of all screw ups.

You can't put these fish in a 150 as babies. You just can't. They'll be lunch in a matter of minutes.
Only if there is something in there that will eat them......

All my fish are happy and healthy and FAT, so there's no hostility. You haven't even seen my fish in person or interacted with them so you don't know.
True, buit what i have seen, is many "mish-mash" tanks (which is exactly wht this is, and plenty of others have already agreed) appearing in the emergency section, with titles like "My plec is eating my Dat".

Aside from all of the above, I can see that i originally wrote "all hail the impending hostility of this tank..."

Note that little word in there? "Impending"? It means, "forthcoming". In other words, it may not be hostile at all YET. In this case, i refer back to the above comment on the emergency section.

Point and Case.

And watch your language, this is a family forum.

I dont think being rude is going to help any of those fish

Well being polites clearly not getting through as above

Making obsertvations and cleverly being rude is the same as blatantly being rude

With all due respect lloyd, unless you have a valid contribution to the thread in order to save/make comfortable the lives of the fish, i don't see what reason you have to post here at all anyway? You're not a mod, and i dont need someone to tell me whether or not my postings could be construed rude. Im sure it could be, but as BAE said, the opposite evidently hasnt been fruitful this far either.

The comments made by myself and others are correct. I make no apologies for this. I also wont apologise for the way in which the above was worded, since the OP has proved more than willing to be argumentative with other members of the forum that clearly have much more experience in keeping some of these rarer species.

It was nothing that should'nt have been expected, 'nuff said.

You was out of order and i told you as far as im concerned my concence is clear. if you asked the op im sure he would say he felt you were being rude
