My platy baby is growing up

My platy baby is getting bigger and bigger his mouth is big enough to eat those micro pellet things that they make to feed guppies and tetras. I have fed him a few of those, but what else can I feed him. Also when is it possible to tell the sex of him/her?

Platys will eat anything. Cucumber, flake, mussel, enriched brine shrimp, daphnia, algae tablet, whatever you put in there they'll eat it. There are about 10 million threads on sexing platys in this forum. Search for "gonopodium".

Hi bball,

You should be able to sex the baby at around 2 and a half to 3 months old depending how fast it has grown. Mine were over a centimeter long before i could tell. Males have a pointed anal fin, females is more of a fan shape. They will all look like females at first though.

Ok so I am going on a trip for 3 weeks I have someone taking care of my fish, they have kept fish before, but not as experienced so if they just put an algae tablet with the fry would that be ok? And whenever one is gone they would put another back in?

Platys can't live off algae alone hence they are not algae eaters and fry will not take algae wafers at a young age, they would starve or get very malnourished on that sort of diet.
Your friend is going to have to do at least one water change a week with dechlorinator otherwise water quality will get very bad.

Um, yeah. For anyone reading this thread, what I posted before was in relation to a varied diet. They will eat a little bit of all those items. Don't just feed them one single item forever.
