My Platty Has Only Had 1 Baby

on thursday i was gorping into my tank when i seen a fry hiding beside a shell in my tank.
i got my breeding trap out and caught the fish and put him in.
hes a mix between a redwagg platty and a black and yellow platty.
i spent the rest of the day searching for more babies but no luck.
now its came to monday and i still havent found any more.
WHY?

Because they got eaten? Because they are hiding really well? There are a number of possible reasons here.

there definatly not hiding because i have been searching in the tank in every good place.
i dout they have been eaten.
i cannot believe it.

You'd be surprised how well they can hide.

Why do you doubt they've been eaten? What other fish are in the tank? If they are the ones in your signature, then those fry stood a VERY good chance of being eaten.

It's possible she only had one...if she's young and small.

she is quite young shes about 6 months.
also when i feed them food her belly seems to have doubled in size every time i feed them
is there a solution to this or is it just normal.
she looks realy preganent thow.

Perhaps feed a bit less?

It's possible she only had one, if she's that young. But my guess would be she had a small batch, and a lot got eaten. You have a lot of fish in there that would not hesitate to go for fry.

Possibly. Though usually they have more then one for their first batch, more around 3-10.

Do you have a tank you could seperate her into before she gives birth this time, so you could save more fry?

No, they tend to stress them out. The only time you can sometimes put them in, is once they have already started to have fry. Other then that, you risk keeping them in there too long, and stressing them out. Can you pretty much tell exactly when she's going to give birth? If so, you MIGHT be able to use a breeder trap.

question:were she poo's from the hole has went bigger and it is white.

no i cleaned the 2 filters yesterday and the only living thing i found in there were snails lol.
has anyone any ideas on if the white hole (were she poos from)is normal.
