Okay, so I put my pair in yesterday afternoon. I have my red/blackish silver metallic with my super red. Both are pk. Its been about 17 hours or so, but my male has yet to build a bubblenest. He is flaring nicely and she seems to be okay in the floating tank I put her in. I have Java moss, a heater that is set at 78, Java Moss, Almond Leaves. I put a half cut styrofoam cup for him to blow a bubble nest in. He has blown a few bubbles, but nothing that could be called a bubblenest. I am thinking about swapping the female for my super black pk female is nothing is happening by around 5 today. Would this be a poor decision? Or have I waited to long? I am just worried is all. I am keeping a spawning notebook, I will turn it electronic once I can upload my pics of the tank and pair.

I fed him some food, and her some food, right before I left to my next class, about 5 hours ago. OMG! I came back with a nicely blown bubblenest. I may just release her when I return, in about 10 minutes. Im gonna observe for a bit. Watch for a spawn log coming soon.

The males I have that don't blow bubble nest until I release the female usually have a bubblenest the next morning when I wake up to go check on them. Don't worry about him he will be fine give them plenty of time. Good luck

Thanks, I was really worried cause they didn't spawn quickly. Ill give it time next time I release the female.

Yes I had that problem too. The first time I was succesful I put them together after the female was in the container for a few hours. Then I covered them up and walked away. They spawned the next morning.

I released the female about 5 hours ago. They haven't spawned yet, but I turned off the lights in the lab and will check on them again tomorrow. I heard it can take up to a week for them to spawn when they are together. Is this true? I am losing my mind cause I am afraid they aren't going to spawn!

Well, I checked up on my pair to find a missing bubblenest and a hiding female. I have no idea what happened, but I removed the female and cleaned the water for the male. Im gonna declare this a failed spawning.

Was the female showing Vertical stripes/bars? I've heard that if the female isn't ready she will destroy the bubble nest, but I've never had the time or $ for spawning, si I don't know from experience, just what I've heard.

Females are known to occasionally reject the male's nest if they feel it is insufficient. Some females are very picky about the size and thickness of the nest, and will destroy a job they deem "unworthy." Perhaps she was displeased with his nest or behavior, and thus destroyed his efforts?
