i wanted to put a few rock plates in my tank and make caves and other decoration.. the pet store sold one plate for 10 bucks.. so i went home and took a sludge hammer to a bolder until i got all the little plates and rock pieces i want.. i then boiled them for about 15 minutes.. are they ok to put in my tank cuz i remember reading somewhere that you can do this.. just checkin tho?

Do you mean Slate?
If so slate is an inert rock so is fine for your Aquarium.

If the pet store was selling the rocks for Aquarium use
then you can bet it would be safe for your aquarium (atleast I hope so).

You could boil it for a bit just to be on the safe side.

im not sure what kinda rocks i have.. there just bolders i have on the sea wall of my lake.. i think there just the average normal rock..

is there rocks that are bad to put in the tank?

Certain rocks are calcareous, and will raise the pH of an aquarium if placed in it. Besides boiling the rocks, you should add white vinegar to the rock's surface. If any sort of bubbling or reaction occurs, then the rock will be unsuitable for aquarium use (unless you desire a higher pH aquarium).
