Added a couple new wild-type species to the family this month, along with a pair of yellow plakats, figured it was time to show everyone off. I don't have any new shots of my Betta falx, but if you're interested, the thread is somewhere.

I do have some new shots of my Betta burdigala I wanted to share. The female has changed from being a light pinky color to being marbled:

Its unexpected, but I love the way she looks.

And not to leave the male out, here he is being a grump:

And a shot to show off his lovely colors (he's hiding his head, being a grump):

Now on to the new additions!!

I've had the Betta pugnax since September, but they are very camera shy. Finally managed a couple of not so great pics, but they'll have to do:

Just hangin' out:

"Whatchu lookin' at huh?"

(I love the puggy faces)

Then we have the Betta enisae:

The female:

The male (wish he was showing off his pretty fins for you):

The pair:

As of last night, the enisae male is holding. Its their first spawn, so here's hoping. I'm not expecting much, the falx spawn every two weeks but not successfully. But I still love to watch the papa turn the eggs. I just love mouthbrooders.

On to the Betta raja (they're still juvies, but cute none-the-less):
"Are you here to feed me?"

"How about now?"

"Maybe if I look all cute you'll feed me now?"

"I can be even cuter if that'll help"

(The raja are major beggers, like little puppy dogs)

And, even though they're not wilds, I wanted to show off my new yellow plakats. The male however is recovering from a split tail fin (he didn't enjoy his trip across country) and therefore, hasn't been too photogenic. But the female has more than made up for that. I just love her.
Lookin' pretty:

Shakin' what her mama gave her:

Whew, I'm done now.

They are all great looking, but I especially like the Raja

Good luck with the enisae!

Thanks guys!

Are you trying to breed any of the wilds?

Yes, I plan to eventually breed them all, if they're willing. The Betta falx, for now, I'm leaving to their own devices. They spawn every two weeks, but no babies yet. I need tanks to move the females into, that's on the shopping list. The B. burdigala are being conditioned at this time and are separated. The B. enisae are holding as of last night, papa was full up with eggs, turning them. Hopefully, he'll do well. I need to remove the female tonight, give him a break. The B. raja are just babies, so maybe in a few more months. And the pugnax I plan to try with once I have them in their own tank (they currently share their 20 gal with a few random leftovers from its community tank days).

Sweet, those wilds look awesome. Other betta species are often so overlooked and are really great. It's neat to see that this forum often features threads on the other members of the genus betta. Keep us posted on that enisae male.

very nice mam!
where did you get the raja? and the enisae? its time for me to get some new species:p

Loooove the burdigala

Thanks slammy. Got them from Mark Denaro of Anubias Design. He's an SMP member.

Loooove the burdigala

Me to. But they all are stunning..MAM I would love some fry from them...

Angel_Lady, if I finally get a successful spawn, you definitely get some. That's a promise.

Enisae male still holding as of yesterday evening, think that's about Day 5...........few more days left, keep your fingers crossed and knock on wood (he's doing better than the falx have at least). I added some floating plants and some live plants in anticipation of babies. I'll keep you all updated.

Good luck with this spawn!

It sounds like you have a nervous wait ahead

<crosses everything and falls over>

Well, its about Day 13 today. I've looked in the tank so many times, I can no longer tell if he's holding or not!!! *Must slap self next time I go into the fish room and make a bee-line for the enisae tank*

This article has given me hope I may still have fry though:

That, and the fact that Joby crossed everything and fell over.

The male showed no interest in eating until Friday (day 10 of holding). He ate one brine shrimp, I had to laugh, he looked so pathetic. So I figured he remembered he had a mouthful of precious cargo. He went back to hiding in the plants (I told him "good daddy, don't eat with your mouth full"). Sunday, he ate with vigor (I left the female in, so I was actually trying to just feed her). I assumed that meant he had either released the fry or swallowed them, and I thought he looked a little different (the green of his cheeks seemed less brilliant, his throat/mouth seemed more normal size, but then again, I'm looking in there a couple times a day, I have no idea what I'm seeing anymore). I have some floating plants and other live plants in there for the babies to use, but I can't tell if there's anything in there! Its very frustrating. I had such high hopes (which I shouldn't have, its their first spawn afterall, I'm just impatient for wee wittle ones in the fish room). I figure I'll drop some fry vittles in there just in case and hope for the best. I assume the pair will spawn again soon, I really need to try to be more patient, but its so hard!!! I'll keep you all posted if I find little wigglers in the next week or so.

Those are very nice MAM! I especially like the first ones..
