okay so i've managed to get all my pics in of my bettas. the blue one is a boy named peaceful. i bought him at the same time when i bought the pinkish girl, isabel. they have been with me since feb. 25, 2007. and they were small when i got them so they have grown at least 50-75% of what they were. the new betta on the block is pearl, who is as pearly white with some dashing maroonish/red specks on her fins. i love her so.

here is peaceful in his home:

by the way, can anyone tell me what kind of bettas i do have?

to me they are just wonderful bettas but if they have more specific type identifiers, i would love to know what they are.

thanks.

Your bettas look like Round Tail bettas to me. You have beautiful bettas and very nice setups for them!! :good: Good job on them!

:fish: :fish:

they are all very nice looking fish and there tanks are great looking you should breed them you would get some lovely looking fish

thank you everyone.

ah, now i can sound a bit more educated when i say these are roundtail bettas. i better look up what a delta betta is!

i don't think i could ever breed them. i would be too scared. i would have to get another bigger tank for that process. but the time is not right for me to do that. i wouldn't be comfortable.

i am just learning about cycling the tank! :p :S

May I ask what the square shaped tanks are called? How big are they? I really like those. If I can find one I'm going to get one for my betta

hi socalmom,

you can find these at petsmart/petsmart.com or petco or perhaps at many other pet stores.

they are sold under the MARINA label which is produced by Hagen (www.hagen.com). visit hagen's web site for more info.

there are actually three different sizes.

1. Marina Betta Kit is actually 1/2 gallon. this is what i started out with when i got my baby bettas. it kept them very happy. the kit came with gravel, a plastic plant with suction cup, water conditioner, and flakes. this cost about $11.99 regularly but i bought them on sale for $9.99. these come in three colors: green/lime, burgundy, purple.

the other two, which are marketed more towards Goldfish have filteration set ups. these both come in purple or orange.

2. Marina Goldfish Kit 6.7 L (1.77 gallons). this is what you see my girls in right now. this kit comes with the gravel you see, a plant (i bought extras), a filtration set up (which i don't use), water conditioner, and goldfish food. this costs about $19.99 regular and i bought them on sale for $17.99.

3. Marina Goldfish Kit 10 L (2.65 gallons). i think this has gravel, water conditioner, goldfish food, and filtration pump. but no plants. this normally sells for $29.99 and you can get them on sale for $27.99.

since i didn't really know about cycling before, i would do 100% water changes in these every 4-5 days. the betta kit would require water changes every 2-3 days.

Hm IMO i would use the filters, seeing as theyll give another place for the bacteria to live, and also will ease maintenance with the elite mini ones that ovcme with those kits. Just try to position it so it wont create to much current.

Theyre only 1.77 gallons??? They look so much bigger. I thought that was at least 5 gallons lol

I'll just stick with my mini bow then

Yea, I know how often to do water changes, thanks though ;)

the biOrb that peaceful is in is 4 gallons. that one sets you back $60 at petsmart or at biorbparts.com. elsewhere, i've seen it at about $10-$20 above that price. that one comes with filter, light, ceramic media, conditioner, food. no plants. it actually seems to take less space than the 1.77 gallon tanks!!!!!

:fun:

Yea, Ive seen that one. I personally don't like the look of round tanks, otherwise I probably would have gotten one. For some reason it just seems like less swimming space and looks like the betta would get bored swimming round and round lol :p
