Very nice!

I'd love a corner tank but sadly don't have a corner suitable!

thanks ive fancied one for a while, how long will i have to cycle the water for?
i was thinking of using half the water out of my other tank will that work?

Water contains very little to no beneficial bacteria for the nitrogen cycle, though you can certainly transfer water over to avoid shocking your fish.

What you need is filter media. If your old filter is powerful enough for your new tank then you can just set it going and everything will be fine, no need to cycle. If not you just need to transfer everything inside your old filter to your new filter and everything should be fine. Keep testing your water for a few days just to be sure (you might lose a tiny bit of bacteria which may cause a mini-cycle) and do a water change if need be.

I'm assuming since you said you were upgrading you're not planning on running the old tank any longer.

no im not but the new tank i have bought has a built in filter and heater but i was thinking of using my external filter off my old tank on it aswell, am i right in thinking this would help the water make it pretty much safe for the fish straight away?

Using your old filter would make it suitable for your fish straight away, yes, but as I said watch out for a mini cycle. It's unlikely, but it's possible.

The filters that come bundled with tanks tend to be only just sufficient, so I would remove it if you can as your external will almost certainly be better. Not sure if the Trigon tanks have their filters siliconed in, but I'm sure I've seen a tutorial somewhere on how to remove them.

What brand/model is your external?

i was thinking of leaving that one in aswell as putting the external, ive just looked and the external filter is a fluval 205?

and how many fish do you think i can keep in the new one, ive currently swordtails guppies daninos and a few other small ones

Ah, you'd probably be pushing it with a 205 in a 190L tank. Fluval says they're suitable for tanks up to 200L, but it's usually best to knock at least a few dozen litres off the official specs.

If it were me, I'd take out the filter that's in there and replace both that and your 205 with a 305, but running them both should be fine.

so running both would be fine? just that it has a 3d background on the filter so taking it out would me i have to change the background aswell. so aslong as the fluval filter is on in my new tank putting the fish in pretty much straight away will be fine?
Sorry im just double checking as i dont want any of them to die

Should be absolutely fine, as the filter will be cycled for the number of fish and not the volume of water. There may be a tiny amount of bacteria contained in the substrate, on the tank walls etc which you'll lose, though it's a neglible amount. Just keep testing for a few days after the transition to make sure everything is okay.

Thanks for your help ill put pictures on when I get it on Friday
