While browsing e-bay i found a tank in my area for sale with a full setup including fish it was very local and it turned out to be a great deal i kept what water i could during transport etc. and the fish are all looking happy i'm not sure of several things the main being...

Is my tank overstocked or is there room for any more fish?

The tanks is a Fluval Duo Deep 800 which holds 112Litres 29.59US Gallons 24.64UK Gallons

The fish currently in it are -
2 Common Plec 6/7 inch and a 2 inch
2 Parrot Fish 4 inch
1 Angel Fish 3 inch
2 Clown Loaches 2 inch
4 Gouramis of varying types all around 2/3 inch

This is my first tropical set up i have usually kept coldwater fish but with the help of a couple of friends who keep tropicals i set this up.

With not setting up from the very start cycling etc and then adding fish i'm not sure if the tank is overstocked or there would be room for 2 more fish... all opinions good or bad welcome i am currently setting up another smaller tank which could re-home a couple of the smaller fish from this tank.

your tank is too small for clown loaches & common plecs.
overstocked yes!
not sure about the parrots either really.

none of those fish are technically "small" fish.

what types of gouramis are they?

your clown loach will reach around 12" long each
so will your common plecs
angel fish can get around 8" tall.
parrot fish up to 10" long

gouramis will depend if they're dwarf variety or not.

One is a honey gourami
Two look like this one but are grey in colour - http://www.aquahobby.com/gallery/e_Colisa_labiosa.php
The other one is like the above but smaller and is blackish grey in colour with a darker stripe through it and is very timid it likes to hide...

What size tank would i need for these fish? Would a 48inch across tank be ok for them as i have seen a reasonably priced one on e-bay...

it depends on volume.
if i went roughly on the inch-per-US gallon rule
*does quick maths*
you'd be looking at an 80 gallon tank approx

but to keep them all together as is right now until their full adult size, i'd go for 90-100 gallon with excellent filtration because plecs are poop machines!

you have the potential to have 4 12" (1 Foot) long fish in there. those are BIG fish.

other more experienced people may differ.
this is just my opinion.

Thanks for your opinion and help i'll look at splitting them up into another tank by the looks of things... id rather try to move smaller tanks if i have to move house...

Anyone else got any opinions...

I have a fluval 800 and I have been told [by technical other-half] it holds 126 litres, frankly I'm confused.

I have four platies in there and I was looking to stock [eventuall] 6 platies in total, 5 Penguin tetras and 1 as yet undetermined other fish but now I'm Thinking maybe that's too many fish! Help! :S

I know from my looking there seems to be a lot of variation in given measurements for the fluval tanks... The best bet would be for you to measure it and work out the gallonage yourself.

i wouldnt worrie about the clown loach getting to big they are very very slow growing and you will be lucky if the grow 1 inch per year

the plecos need to go they grow fast and big

i wont coment on the parrots each to their own

I have seen a tank slightly bigger than this i estimate between 130-150L tank if i split the fish between this and the tank i have seen would that be better for them?

I really don't want to give any away or sell them...

If it is a good idea which fish would you keep in which tank etc.

Doesn't sound like a problem even if the tank is 112 ltrs. As long as your undetermined other is not enormous.
