Just as a quick reminder - this was opals tank before....

i then received lots of ideas from people on here to jazz it up for her - i couldn't wait to begin.. this is the step by step process...
Here is the tank - white sand gone - fine, soft, small, black gravel and background in place!

Hardscape and filter added next - a nice solid shapely piece of bogwood for opal to swim around.
Then i added some conditioned water and started planting - i bought three levels of planting to make sure the front middle and black look interesting rather then lots of tall background plants and an empty front. All plants are aquatic and live. (and well fed) I have also added opals moss ball.

and here is the tank fully set up - and again with opal exploring with his pal (granny smith) the apple snail

Opal looks a lot happier and i am very chuffed... left me know what you think!!??!

thanks again guys!!!

It looks lovely hun, defo better and i love that bogwood!

btw did you mean to say her? cos you have a beautifal boy by the looks of things

oops no i meant to write him lol. he got named after my fiancee's little sister because she thought he was very pretty lol and she calls him a she - i get very confused when writing her name for him lol.

thanks for the comments guys - the complete revamp cost me £15.00 :good:

Looks awesome ! :good:

I have an Opaline Gourami named Opal. I am always saying "she"....but it's a "he" ! We get mixed up 'cause their so pretty :)

What a difference.....it looks sooo much better now. Well done :good:

thank you guys!! sorry about the poor pictures, i will try and take some better ones and put them up.

Its making me want to re-do all of my tanks now!

The cold water tank if next when the bigger fish are out in the pond. but i got to try and resist playing with my community tropical in the mean time!! lol

I read somewhere that a background can distress a betta.... ?? I could do with adding a background to my betta tank as I have godawful curtains behind it and also it would disguise the filter a little.... what do you all recommend??

Oh, I also meant to say, gorgeous tank! It looks great! I only got my tank yesterday but I may revamp next payday after seeing this!

My betta flared at his reflection with the background for the first 5mins and has now forgotten it is even their.

they are sold at the LFS in tanks with blue backgrounds - and every tank i looked at on here has a background.... so i think you should be safe

i guess it could also depend on the betta - altho Opal is quite a highly strung male.

Cool, I think I will get one! My betta has flared at me a few times but seems used to me now! So i think he will get used to a background! Thanks for good inspitation! I love the black gravel - I have white sand at the mo, but that is more for viewing my adf's - they look so great against the white sand! I think when they finally die I will swap for somthing similar to you as it looks fantastic!

cheers hun. The white sand i had drove me insane! lol always looked so clinical even when it was dirty! and as Opal is quite light colors she just seemed to disappear. she really stands out now :)

:) White seemed a good idea in the lfs...... hmmmm. Maybe I will swap it for sand coloured sand soon! :p I just wanted to see my froggies better - against black i would see nothing!
