Well I recently acquired some hydra to my tank. At first I freaked out, not knowing what it was and why it's there, but after some research done...I came to the conclusion that a little carnivore that eats ich, velvet, and a host of other diseases and is in no way a threat to my exodon paradoxus ISN'T TOO BAD! hahaha

Thought I'd snap a few shots of it. Pretty interesting stuff, LOVES tubifex worms and brine shrimp. :hyper:

Pretty cool little things, although I heard something about them eating fry? They can be harmful in some way I believe not sure how...

Those are much better then these weird cyclops water flea things I have in my tank, a bunch like to sit on top of the water and jump around

Cool, interesting pics, what did they come on?

I love the cyclops in my tank, they are in no way harmful, and are great food for any fry that manage to escape the angel and....everything else in the tank.
I like my tank to be seem natural, and all the little critters just provide added interest to me. Spring tails and cyclops are I have visible to the naked eye, you should try putting tank water under a microscope! :D

Nice pics. gR8 FISH.
Did you actually look at the pics Paul? :)

Yeah they can eat small fry, but my exodons have only spawned once or twice, and the smaller exodons went around eating the eggs :(. I haven't really put any considerable effort into rearing the fry or actually successfully breeding them, so I could care less. There's nothing in the tank that the hydra can harm, except bad bacteria.

I sure would like to see your exodons.

Oh believe me I've tried! My cam is too terrible to take any decent pics of them, but maybe I'll give my moms a go.

I'm glad you liked my 1 barely recognizable blurry pic of one of my fish.

At first I thought: PEST! BAD WATER CONDITIONS! But from what I gather it's just a normal healthy tank and the feeding of brine shrimp (usually appears in fry tanks because of this) is the culprit. My guys take only a meaty diet, with varied flakes throughout the week. So...brine shrimp, some tubifex worms, crickets (throw some in for exodons when I feed my frogs/ones that died off), and krill are a big part in their diet so the hydra LOVE to eat that and....hatched? formed? I guess. Still, it's a cool little specimen.

Try taking a full tank shot of 'em. Or a vid from the camera. It's much easier!

What size tank and how large is the school? I currently have 11 in a 55gl right now and I love them!
