My New Tank, I Planted It Looks A Lot Nicer Imo

Nice tank Shelagh, I think all those plants should grow fine without any special care or attention, though better lighting, regular ferts and CO2 injection would turn it into a mass of cobomba in about 2 days, that stuff really grows quickly and is great for battling algae in a newly set up tank. The fake plant looks very real to me in the pic also so I would deffo keep it.

Looking good.

Bricko

Now thats a tank worth having :good: good job, just get those unsightly internals out and get a monster external :p

crypts are a low light plant they were the first plant i was ever able to grow and it was in like .8 wpg lol so lightings not a problem, they propogate by runners and can cover ur tank if u let them but esy to keep from doing so. by just pulling out the new plantlets

thankyou for your lovely comments :)

That looks fantastic. Change the gravel and I can hand on heart say it'll be the best members tank pic I've seen.

God I want silver sharks

any suggestions for colour, as im thinking black, so suggestions would be great :)

OMG thankyou soo soo much :):)

Purely for aesthetics I think play sand looks fantastic, and can see it working well with your tank. I'm not as keen on black gravel as everyone else, but that said I've seen some tanks that had it and looked great. I think its largely to do with the way you've got the tank planted - if you've got an open, plantless area that gets a fair bit of light I think black gravel works pretty well. When its a densely planted tank though its mostly in shadow and looks dingy imo.

Either way, thats a fantastic looking tank.

I had pool sand and it had a orange tint in the tank. Thus switched to pool filter sand. After 3 months I hated it, for the accumulation of debris was ugly. Since I got some flourite for free decided to change to flourite, instead of removing top of sand and replacing it.

shelaghfishface My cabomba plant is very thin and long. My lighting is 2 wpg. That is 3 20 watt bulbs over a 110 litter tank. Thus you must have more wpg. What is the watts over your tank?

I use argo's play sand in my tanks and it looks good - and costs £2.50 for 15kg, so not pricey either.

And no real issues with debris - I'm quite aggressive with the gravel cleaner and consequently pick up a bit of sand - but not much. Despite the fact I'm doing daily water changes I think it'll be a year or so before I'll have to add any more sand (and theres loads left over in the bag still.)

updated 3rd August really growing well, need cutting back to keep them bushy rather than stringy
