My New Rescue Cat

I just thought I would share a few pictures of my rescue cat, Mewmew. He was named at the centre and my son didn't want to change it!! We don't know a lot about him except he was picked up as a stray in July and had been in the centre ever since. He is FIV positive but we don't know how old he is or how long he has left. He is a lovely friendly little thing and really good with the kids.

Aaaw . He is gorgeous. Sorry to hear that he is FIV positive. Poor little thing. I'm sure he is going to LOVE living with you, already looks like he's settled in. Good on you for adopting him. I'm sure plenty people wouldn't have bothered knowing he is ill.

Ahh he's gorgeous and looks so kind and gentle. Good on you for taking in an FIV cat - they are always more difficult to place into the right home that understand their needs. But that said, with the proper indoor care and attention, they can live full and happy lives

He is lovely but he does have some strange habits!! He likes to sleep in the bath, he spends most of the day there!! If not the bath then with his head in the food bowl!! i'm convinced he's actually mad!!

It could be that he was alway shut in the bathroom by previous owners. My friends cat was shut in the bathroom as a kitten before he was rehomed and he likes to lick plastic bags. I think strange habits are the cause of being mistreated in the past.

We rescued my puddy tat from our local animal shelter he is also FIV positive. we have had him for about 3 years now he is perfectly well in himself however occasionally gets a cold. where he sneezes and coughs according to the vet this is because he has a weaker immune system. we have trouble feeding him some types of wet food as he tends to throw some of them up but most seem to be ok.
make sure you still get his yearly jabs tho they have to have them if you want to put them in a cattery when you go away. apparently it prevents him passing it on to other cats.
hope yours is ok and stays happy and healthy as mine has got my fingers crossed for you!!

Thanks for your comments. He does seem well at the moment although I think he has a hair ball!!! He is on meds for cat flu at the moment so could not finish his last course of jabs before he left the centre. We are taking him back next week to re start the course. He seems to have settled in very well although he is not terribly sociable I'm guessing that will come as he gets used to us. Being a stray we don't know how used to kids he is but he is doing ok at the moment.

Congratulations on your new rescue cat. We have owned two cats in the past and we had to put one, who was 15, down in May of this year, and I had one who I had to put to sleep in 2001 due to Feline Leukemia. My father and I now own a dog and a cat and that's it for now.

I have a rescue cat too and love him to bits, my cat is my "baby" and is very spoilt.

Good on u for getting a rescue cat, and i'm sure he will b very happy.

Aww lovely ! Defo well done you for taking on a poorly cat, Far to many are stuck in shelters as people dont want them & their " issues " or short life span.
Sure his days however many left will be very happy, loved & contented
