My new rays

Thats good it's about a ince down from the stinger. so when the stingers get replacement are they easy to find in the tank and then collect them?

I'll trya nd get that picture when i do my water change tomorrow and there's no water disturbance.

I think the rays are making my tank really murky by disturbing all my sand which i didn't wash.....did this happen to you as i know you didn't wash yours...??

they ate alot better last night compared to thrusday, i'm going to put a few bags of live in tonight aswell.

I only have a layer of sand a couple of mm deep, basicly just something to stop the light reflecting off the bottom of the tank. Deep substrates can cause a lot of problems in predator/large fish tanks with food and poo getting trapped and raising the nitrates sky high before the problem is found.

If you do find a stinger wear gloves or use tongs to pick it up, the stiinger is razor sharp and the poison remains potent even after the stinger is shed.

I also suggest you print a copy of this artical and keep it somewhere where it can be found easily so that if you do get stung the hospital will know how to deal with the wounds.

Would you suggest I remove alot of my sand then? Its about a 1inch - 1inch and half in most places.

I didn't think my ones were actually poisonous just have a nasty stabber!!??

Only thing is i have slate which probable wouldn't stand up if i removed alot of the sand. Do you just use wood?

I think they are all poisonous, best to have a toxin report to hand if needed.

Personally i would remove most of the sand down to a layer about 1/4 inch thick, unless you have live plants substrate is purely asthetic anyway.

All rays are poisonous, while they do not actually have the ability to pump a venom into body the stinger is coated in a protein based slime packed full with bacteria which infect the wound and need heavy anti biotics to treat.

I only use wood in the tank with the ray and cats, slate and rock is a foreign substance to them in the wild so i dont include it as decor.

I do have some live plants but i put rocks aorund there base so the cichlids can't rip them out, so I'll get onto that today along with my water change, and move most of the wood to the sides and corners.

I'm thinking of putting my 2 802 powerheads about half way down to try and get all the crap out of the back corners, I'need to go about finding canisters to put on the bottom of them aswell.

I'll try and get that picture today but my water is pretty murky.

Cheers.

i'ved taken some sand out now and all the rocks and waiting until i can see again before i start shifting wood aorund and landing it on rays!!

Just thought i would add that my tank looks alot better with all the rocks out, at the moment all the wood is just chucked to the front of the tank, but this enables me to see everything hiding in it so I might leave it like this with the backa nd 1 side completely open.

Also my new plec is a awesome algae cleaner. He wrecked my natural algae backgorund!!! I did have a thick layer of algae on the back of the tank but he's cleaned most of it off now. I'll gte a pic of him in the next few days as he sits on the wood which is parked up front.

all will be done tomorrow, i'll be back home at 12ish so plenty of time to mess around.

That would be impossible to take a picture of very single fish i have, theres too many plecs hiden aorund the place!
