finally got my tank setup on saturday night and yesterday went got me some fish. i have bought 5 Pseudotropheus saulosi to begin with, 3 male, 2 female. Next week i'm hoping to pick up 5 afra cobwe, then another 5 of another species at some point, see how it goes though.

looks nice and tidy, although it looks quite small? I've no experience in mbuna, but they need quite a big tank i thought?

yeah they do, thats a nice looking setup but what size isit?

this is a 125 ltr. its just shy of 3ft, 14" deep and 16" high. filter is a rena xp3.

i thought it was a little small long term but i have spoken to 4-4 different fish shops and also met in person a couple of guys from another malawi forum who have been keeping them for 20 odd years. they all told me the same thing.

my tank should be ok as long as its got allot of rock and chose my fish carefully. time will tell and i'm not naive to think i might have to move some fish on.

on another note, my fish have not shown any interest in the rock work, they are far to busy playing in the current generated by my spray bar. i assume this is normal and they are just having fun?

Yeah they do enjoy playing in the current, but if your fish decide to fight or breed then you will notice that the rocks will be used a lot more often :).

tank is just a simple glass tank, custom was from a5 aquatics. the quality is not as good as my last tank that was made by wharf aquatics, saying that it was cheaper and only 5 minutes away against 90 minutes for wharf.

the males are starting to colour up so the playing might stop in the near future! i'm off to london tomorrow for a few days so hoping to bring back some Cynotilapia afra Jalo/cobue. i've heard mixed things about these guys, 99% of profiles say they are not that aggressive for mbuna, however also read comments by keeps of these fish saying they are evil b*st*rds.

anyone got experience of them or suggest a good second species?

I've just recently added some F1 Afra Cobue to my Trigon 190 that i setup. (Thats one of them in my avatar) Only had them about a week now and their just over 2.5inch and they seem quite placid at the mo. They are quite small though so time will tell as they get a little bigger.

where did you get yours from? only one place around me that has them but they go really quick, if i see them i'm going to get 2 males and 3 females hopefully.

Usually get my fish from NW (natural world) but got these from this guy:
Dont think he has any F1 left but he still has some cobue, where are you based mate?

from leicester/hinckley area. i got my current stock from natural world on sunday, spoke to a guy called sam who sounded like he knew his stuff and he came highly recomended by some other forums guys i've met.

a5 sometimes have them in but i don't trust them, by this i mean where they get the stock from.

i've heard of carl, read good things about him. also being trying to get on the forum mentioned in the ad (recommended by the guy who bought tangs and tank off me).

wondering now if i may bumped into you at natural world

Sam from essex? Yeah he knows his stuff. Colin the main guy at NW has been on holiday i think, just recently got back but if you speak to him he will(hopefully) be able to get you some ordered.
