Hiya's,

Been tough the last 18mths one way or another, but, moved into a house, had room for a larger tank, so went for it

The largest that would fit was a 8x2x2, if a planned extension works out later on then i can have my dream tank (9x3x3)

Some pics, but my camera is old and only 3.1mp lol

Also, with clutter in the way i can't as yet take full frontal pics

Forgot to say, i got the tank from ND Aquatics, ordered on the 13th october, delivered on the 2nd november !!! fast or what, excellant build, and i went for opti-white glass on the front

Fish are in now, only finished sorting wood and rocks, gave plants away but will get some more soon, also i'm hoping santa brings me a co2 kit from germany lol

ps: only put 1 filter on tonight, second's going in tomorrow, then i'll redo all the pipework etc

Hiya,

I have assorted loaches, thirteen clowns, 4 zebs (largest is 'flo' at around 5" long)

Around fourty neon tetras (not many to look at in a 6x2x2 let alone this tank lol

Seven assorted gouramis

Five cories (bronze) and two peppers

Mac the Knife (that's easy to figure out)

Around a dozen harlequins

Again around ten glowlights

Three small shrimp (these are real hardy l'uil critters)

Five black phantoms

Two guppies

Two green striped barbs

Two plecs

And maybe ten assorted small rescue fish

Sounds a lot i guess, but they enjoyed the six footer so now they're lost in this one lol

Will try n post a few pics i took earlier (pics are with flash and unsteady hands lol)

Maybe get scale with some fish showing, again, bear in mind i have just got fish in, so a fresh blank looking tank hehe

OMG that is a HUGE tank!!!!!! How many gallons is that? My dream is to have a big tank, kind of like an indoor pond but you can see through the sides, about as high as a table, maybe a little taller!!! :good:

Wow that is an allsortment! How does Mac get on with the smaller fish?

The tank must be getting on for 1000l I imagine. Very nice. What are you doing for a lid / lightning?

Hiya,

To the very top of the tank it's 199 imp gallons or 239 us gallons (euro is 906 litres) this is quoted sizes from various online calcs etc

With the top bracing being so high, maybe 10mm from the top and 10mm thick, i guess in reality the actual mearure is 188 imp gallon (my 6x2x2 tank had bracing a few inches from the top glass edge, so lost quite a few gallons, but this beast i can fill to 22mm from the top and clear the bracing by a few mil)

The tank is amazing, every and i mean every piece of glass in its construction is bevelled edged

The extra £80 on the front opti-white glass was money well spent

If i have one regret it's not having the ends done in opti-white (not that it matters really where the tank's sittuated)

Still taking it all in, the loaches as i type are dancing just to my left (see my pc in a pic) mac the knife is wafting around checking tank out i guess, and all the other fish are just swimming around happy as larry hehe

Ahh mac the knife

Well believe it or not he stays with flo (the largest clown i have)

They share what i call 'the wooden tunnel'

It's aquatic wood with a natural hole through it

Some other loaches squeeze in too, flo seems to tolerate mac more than the other loaches though funnily enough

As for mac and the other fish, never noticed anything but calm, he likes shade, he loves his bloodworm, he gets on with all the fish

I think if you give most creatures enough space they are happy enough and stay calm

The neons follow him around when he goes wafting around

All in all i have never had any problems with fish behaviour (yet lol)

Hopefully tomorrow if i get time, i'll take some daylight pics and make a better 'david bailey' job of em lmao

ps: lighting, i will do a thin ply and pine (stained) lid, with a hinged lighting setup, dunno whether to use T5 again or go for leds, might readup on leds for this size tank and see if it's do-able

Tony

The filter you see is ............. Aquarium External Filter 2000 L/H + 9W UV

I hopefully will have the other filter rigged up too tomorrow, that's a Fluval FX5

Gotta find time to call into B&Q for some piping first though

The lighting on my 6x2x2 i made using T5 ballasts, ran two double 80w, so gave me 320w total, on two timers

Was ok for low-medium light plants, but had to rig up some diy co2

This tank i want to get a co2 kit from germany (or santa can if she's watching hehe) really can't be doing with mixing yeast and sugar lol

i thought it was, im planing on geting the 1000lph one for my tank soon

Hiya,

Had two of those filters, one for my moms rio 240 and the other for me

Mom's had no problems, my one decided to die on me, the motor winding inside the housing top fubar'ed

I must stress i called allponsolutions and i got it replaced, amazingly fast no quibble

Been fine ever since

Can't rate them high enough for the money, and more to the point, a company that actually gives a hoot about their products and moreover their customers

If i hadn't of got the fx5 i would of gone for another allpond 2000uv, just happened on a deal for the fx so got it

nice one, i've tucked £400 away for the same tank sometime in the future, nicely built stand by the way, plan to build something very similar myself :D

You need more fish, another 30 loaches :D

I do love loaches, maybe food for thought tizer lol

Gonna pop to some lfs's this weekend :)

The stand i built the same fashion as my six footer

I have luckily decent tools aquired over the years, the wood was from wickes

It's studwork timber, just eye any wood down 2 sides if you buy it yourself, this wood is strong and i mean strong, over engineered again but with the studwork wood only coming in at around £35 it's a bargain

The 6mm ply cost £17ish i think, this did the ends and 6ft along the back (to keep things square, some mdf for the top/bottom costing £16 (never put bottom mdf on as this house floor is a solid concrete woohoo, so no real need to spread the weight so much as when i was in a flat

The inside i will use pine slats (saves measuring and cutting odd shapes lol)

For the front, i will get some thick ply, cut to size to cover the whole front, secret nail or no nails it on (only for show, the sides/back take care of holding any flex) then cut 4 door shapes out of the ply, these cutouts will form the doors, these will be edged in pine

The exterior corners will be butt jointed pine too to give an overall panelled effect, then stained and danish oiled many times

The hood setup (still in my head going through slight modifications hehe) will be the thinner 6mm ply for lightness, with pine etc forming the framework, again this will match the front doors to five a panelled effect

I think 99% sure at this stage that i want to go led lighting, with energy costs always going up even if you are super-green i want to spend as little as i can from now on

Tizer, if you can, i really recommend alround opti-white (i mean if you can see through the side/sides where tank is going, the extra ££ is well worth it)

I will mention the tank install to maybe help anyone worried about large tank moving etc

I made a steel base for my six footer, ended up using wood throughout, anyways ............

I just secured what was going to be my new tank base (mdf grrrrrr) onto the top of the steel 6ft base, overhanging 1ft each end (don't panic people !!) the ND delivery was in a luton van with a tail lift woohoo

Only a driver who spoke little english but sign language etc worked fine, the van is floored in carpet and also carpets placed over the tail lift

We easily slid the beast onto the tail lift then onto my steel stand, i had two new web straps (cheers aldi they work great) i carefully placed them around tank over the bracing areas using old newspaper as protection for the straps

Took me and a helper to drag the whole thing 50yrds to the side of the house, took 2mins and that included up a dropped curb, i made a sandwich and tea while we waited for a third helper

We then dragged her onto the lawn, up a upvc front door step (door taped full open and handle covered in lots of clingfilm) down a small narrow hall into the lounge/living room, real easy with minimal lifting etc

Ohh, as you walk in the front door and head in/around to where the tank is it's like a massive U shape, i made sure with a U shape move i would deffo end up with the opti-glass facing the right way hehe

Anyways, i just got the fx5 rigged up quick, secured a net filter over the flow pipe, turned her on, then watched the whole tank get gunked up with tiny crud :( the net had come lose and all the sahaking etc in the move earlier had created a nice mess just waiting to come out

Anyways with the filters both back up n running the water will clear fast, is now as i look really

If i had to move this again, i would make a skid stand just for this purpose, i dread to think of having to move this with just people carrying it (i don't think i would of attempted it and i used to be used to lifting real heavy weights)

So, while i'm off i'm gonna read up on led aquarium lighting ;)

Cheers

Tony

Good to know the opti is worth the extra, i'll keep saving the pennies!

I'm also going to get a black backing done, save me glossing it all.

I plan to make the stand about 4 inches deeper than the tank itself and put a line of small black kitchen tiles along the front to give it a "lip" or a small shelf. The front will be boarded similar to your plan but again im going to tile it and then fit some black smoked glass doors instead of having a wood effect. Its a bit hard to describe and it wont happen for a while so i'm just going to have to enjoy reading your updates!! Keep at it! :D
