Hi All

Since I had my new tank I haven't had the chance to post any pictures. The Tank is still not fully finished and it is even harder now to take ant decent pictures. So I took a video at feeding time quality not brilliant but see what you think. It is far better when you stand in front of it.

Nice tank, and a really fun video. I hadn't realised how big the shark catfish was until the two little sharks swam into view! Those shark cats really do look like miniature sharks, don't they?

Thanks for sharing!

Neale

Nice tank Sabby!!! :good:

I have never seen Mono's in action before. Only in pictures. For their shape, they are quite fast and agile.

Again...Awesome!! :good:

EDIT: spelling

Very nice! Enjoyed the video, too! :good:

How big is that tank? What are they feeding on in the video? They all seem to enjoy it!

Hi All

I don't know what has happened when I posted the picture and the video. Normally they come up as soon as you open the post?

Thanks for the nice comments. Glad you like the tank. Must say I am pleased with it.

Neal: The three other cat fish are very small compared to the big one. It is funny as he is trying to squeeze into the cave where they are hiding.

OX5477: They are feeding on frozen blood Worm and Brine shrimp. Mind you Monos are so greedy the even eat flake food.

Scatta: The Tank is 6 1/2 x2x2

Wow your sharkcat is chubby! Maybe im not feeding mine enough, than again you said its good to feed catfish food and our petstores dont carry it, but we are heading down south to the state capitol this weekend where they have alot of better stores, I will find some and pick some up then. I love the tank set up too very nice!

Hi Morquinn

My Shark Cats eat frozen prawns & cockles (defrosted) from the Super Market. The only thing I get from LFS is frozen Blood Worm, Brine Shrimp, Mysis etc. and the Cat Sharks don't stand much of a chance of getting much of that because the Monos are to fast.

Hmm, wonder if my supermarkets carry that... guess I never cared to look before. I did pick up some sinking catfish pellets, they seems to love them, and all the other fish ignore em, so its great they get something for themselves now, specially my banjo cat, he always seems to miss out on feeding time, but he is still alive and kickin so must be getting something.

Hi again

Surely your supermarket must have a frozen fish section ?

Sabby

yeah it does, but I never go in that section lol... so frozen prawn you say? What do you do just thaw it and toss it in and let it sink? I dont know if it would ever reach the bottom with the other fish in there, guess I could distract them. Should I cut it up in fine peices, or put chunks in? They seem like they can hoard large peices of anything into there mouth.

Hi

Just thaw them (I have got a small glass I take tank water and thaw the food in that) and break them in half. What other fish have you got in there and how big are your Cat Fish?

Sabby

Well since I just recently learned that its probably best to have them in brackish water (thanks to you :) ) since I have been keeping them in freshwater since we got them, I have them with two oscars, a couple silverdollars, and a banjo catfish. We have a 120gallon tank that we were going to be setting up as brackish now, unfortunatley we cant do that until we move out (living with bf's parents) and space is limited right now, so they will be moving unless I can successfully keep them in the 55gallon? I havent done much reading on them, I didnt choose the fish unfortunatley, it was my boyfriends impulse buy, but im trying to do whats best for them anyhow since I have come to thuroughly enjoy them. If I had to estimate their length, I would say about 5-6" in length. Maybe a little larger, but water is deceitfull.
Is it true that alot of fish can be successfully kept in brackish tanks, just not being able to reverse back into fresh water? If this is the case, I would gladly make the oscars brackish (although im unsure about them being in brackish) and house them together, they dont bother each other at all they "grew up" together since Bubba (my albino tiger oscar) was an inch long and the BFS were about 2" long, Bubba is now 8" long roughly, if he wanted to he could probably suck down my banjo cat, but he was in there originally too, so im thinking they are just gonna leave each other alone, but just on the safe side we purchased the 120gallon for the oscars (thinking we could keep the black-fins in fresh water all their lives since they havent been phased yet) until of course I came onto this part of the forum and realized its probably best to keep them in brackish. Anyways, long story short, I have to do some reading on whether I can keep the oscars in brackish and move the heck out of the house and get that 120gallon set up!

unfortunately, i can save you some research, Morquinn... oscars can't be kept in brackish waters.

sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
