I know I sound like a nervous mom, but this cutie has not flared once--mirror,, no mirror, nor at me or the food. I haven't seen any bubble nests either though I think some of that may be due to the very small, very quiet filter I have in his 3 gallon tank. He actually seems to like to "surf" under the stream--which is really cute.

I have heard that some males do neither--but just wondered if anyone had any ideas of how I could "Inspire" him to do some of these. I, of course, love him just the same--even if he doesn't!

Love to all,
Wendy :fish:

When i often get bettas from the LFS they don't flair for the first few weeks then after a while some will start to flair while others will not. I have one i just bought recently and he is as peaceful as can be, he chooses not to intereact with my other bettas and prefers not to flair. So I believe it to be normal if they do not flair. After all if you think about who knows how long he was flaring at the other bettas he sat next to in the fish store or on the travelling vehicle or when he was born. So i consider it normal.

A couple of my boys don't bubble nest or just have a few bubbles dotted about. One doesn't flare either he is still happy just a very laid back man...I also have a pk male who doesnt like the same food as the others, he still gets given it eats a couple of bits and then I have to syphon the rest out,, :good:

A few of mine didn't bubble nest but they loved flairing, little devils.
My mum says hers doesn't bubble nest either but also loves flairing.

All are different and it's nothing to worry about :good:

Lmao...

I went over to mums today to have a cuppa n stuff and went to see her little man. He has started bubblenesting lol. Not sure if you heared about me putting a ping pong ball in his tank but, he is using that to build around! A ping pong ball and an amazon sword leaf and tada! Bubble nest heaven.

So it got me thinking, Maybe you could try the same? =)

It is still nothing to worry about, just thought id post. Typical that i say he doesnt, when actually he has just started!

Thanks--sounds like a cool idea (maybe in a sorority tank, you could start a volley ball team), but where in NY does one get ONE PING PONG BALL???

Actually you can try other things that float as well. My little boy doesn't build a bubble nest unless he's breeding. When I am ready for him to spawn I just float a piece of styroafoam on top of his tank and he goes right at it, as if he knows exactly why his mommy put it there lol. You can also use a pid or some other things that float, just make sure they won't contaminate the water obviously.

But I agree, nothing wrong with him not making a bubble nest. My little buy actually use to try to make them but they would always pop. I didn't know this until I really watched him one day. Maybe this is the case with your little man. Sometimes they just aren't very good at it at first. I wouldn't worry about him falring either. The way my babies come home is almost always different than they turn out a couple months later. My most shy become the ones with the most personality and my sweetest become the more aggressive ones it seems.

If your betta swims with his fins semi-flared, then he's happy and very healthy.
