So.... I got my new Betta today. He's a blue/white butterfly HM. As I really have to go and I spent too much time on Facebook, here's a quick picture of him: ^_^

Here he is. His name is Midnight Moon: ^_^

And, just for good measure, here are his tankmates.... ^_^

Rosa (female guppy):

They're all in a 10g. Enjoy! :D

Just wanted to edit to add: Happy New Year's! :3 (It's only 9:46 PM on December 31st, 2009 here, though. XD)

He is lovely! His coloring is gorgeous!! Be careful that he doesn't go after the guppies, especially the male. And remember livebearers should really be in groups of 3 females to every 1 male, if you have 1 and 1 the male can constantly harass the female to breed and the stress could actually end up killing her

Nice betta! :)

Where do you buy them from? A breeder?
Or petsmart, i didnt know they done different tail types..! :)

zenandra is right, the finnage movement on the male guppie will trigger aggresion in male bettas, although they have lots of room in the tank, not many places for the guppie to get away from him either, and the betta will eat any young the guppies have if you didnt want to breed them, he is stunning though can see why you like him. di

he is really beautiful! i LOVE his color. cant say ive ever seen a green one in the flesh. id have snapped him up too:)
the tank sure is roomy enough. i like the little castle on the right:)
if you find that the betta is harassing the male guppy (or vice versa) get some more plants. helps break up the line of sight so they arent constantly having to see each other.
and that guy will prob not eat very many of the fry. IME, they pick off the weak ones and then dont bother anymore (even tho youd think the betta would be this voracious fry-eater...god knows they are hungry, greedy things to begin with, but guppy fry are a lot faster/stronger swimmers than youd think. and once htey figure out the betta means buisness they will stay away from him). in about 2 weeks, the fry are too big to be eaten at that point.
nice set up tho. i do suggest some more plants. other than that, looks great!
cheers

you shouldnt have any problems with the male betta and guppies, i never did.

i do however LOVE his colour! good find!

The male guppy made Midnight mad at first because he was spazzing and eating the walls and crashing into the plants and sand and stuffs. Then he went menacingly after Sunset, but they seem fine now. ;) Probably has something to do with the female trying to stop them from fighting....!

Oh, and also; Rosa has SOOOOO much charisma. XD Sunset harasses her; she just turns around and harasses him right back! She's also pretty calm. I hope this works out in the long run. ^_^

Any fry that are born, I will catch and stick in the 55-gallon.... I only have 2 left out of my original 14 and 27 feeder guppies or something. Muahahahaha! :sly:

Oh, I got him at Big Al's. ^_^ He was $15CDN because he's a half moon, and they don't get 'em in very often.... So far, however, when he flares, I haven't seen any half moon in him yet. If he's not an HM, I'll be mad.... D:< However, he's still young and has a LOT of growing to do (you should've seen Libra when I brought him home and a few weeks after; grew like a weed in an overgrown garden  ) and, besides.... his colour makes up for anything! ^_^

I love these fish. I'm all ready to separate if anything goes wrong. They're still settling in, though. Might take a few days to properly tell.

get me another few pictures of he's tail??

me thinks he may be a double taill :good:

i Dont know.. Just got the look that he is'nt a halfmoon :S

has he flared?? ( if so get us a pictuere of him flaring so i can examine him :p )

have you done a water change recently ( it'll help grow the fins better )

Oh, nope; I haven't. XD Also, he won't flare.... :( The way his fins start branching at the bottom tail makes me THINK that he is a half moon, but he seems a bit SuperDelta-ey. :/

Ahh! I feel so bad! I just went over to the fish tank where he was in the front left corner, and I showed him the mirror; like a flash he had turned around and gone back into his plant! :( And he hasn't come out yet. :-(

Get a mirror. Make him flare... and take a picture then we can tell if he's a true halfmoon.

he maybe a cross of SD+HM.
if so Go to your LFS. Big Al's.

And tell them you sold me the wrong fish blah blah blah.

:good:

Read my post edit.... If you're too lazy:

'Ahh! I feel so bad! I just went over to the fish tank where he was in the front left corner, and I showed him the mirror; like a flash he had turned around and gone back into his plant! :( And he hasn't come out yet. :-( '

Well, now he has come out, but....

My fault  give him some more time.

maybe (if) he's out. Just get me a picture of he's top fin? and possible he's mid fin?

Look at this crappy Diagram here.

2x Pics please

Also turn the flash off. it freaks them out 10x more.

Technically for a betta to be considered a halfmoon the tail must have the perfect 180 degree span. If its just a degree or 2 off then they're a superdelta even if they "look" halfmoon  Have you tried putting a mirror next to the tank or even putting him in a small beanie with a mirror just to encourage him to flare so you can get a good look at his tail span. Try putting him in a beanie (or small 1gal or less tank, critter keeper etc) with a mirror on the outside so he flares then snap a couple pictures :D
