Meet my new Betta......not sure what to call him but want something that ties in with asia...thought about 'Yin' or 'Yang' but not convinced yet.....

The pics don't do him any justice, he is a peach/pink body, blue/green yellow fins and black mouth and gills...kinda looks like he has gothic black lipstick on! He is a really cool looking guy!

I will apologise for pics in advance they are off my moby and it is s*ite to say the least and he is so busy parading around can't get him to keep still! LOL :hyper:

Betta Tank:- 35L Hexagonal, Fine Black Sand Substrate, 25W Heater, Fluval Filter, Large 12" Silk Plant, 2x Samurai Figurines.

Water Stats: NO3 Nitrate 10-25
NO2 Nitrite 0
GH 6-16
KH 6
PH 6.8

Please advise if any of this needs to be sorted out, constructive criticism please! x x x

He looks lovely ! .His colouration is Gorg !! You say you wanna stick with the whole asia theme ...since you have 2 samurai figures in the tank why not call him katsumoto or yoshimoto ...Both traditional samurai names !

Good luck naming him !!!

Kizz, they are wicked names.........but a bit of a mouthful lol! Knowing me, I would forget what he was bloody called ha ha ha ha

Just been having another butchers at him and his colouration around his mouth and chin are totally black along with his gills when he 'flares' looks a bit like a pirate.......lol x

'Captain Jack Sparrow!'............only joking x

He has got lovely Coloring, For some reason the name Peach Melba popped in my head

can anyone also let me know if the water stats are o.k for him............? SEE ABOVE :good:

Just to add I have some concerns after watching him intently for most of the day, he was a choice of 3 in my LFS, all Veil Tails....A Deep Red, Deep Blue or my man himself....I always go for the ones that are a bit 'different'....but since watching him, is it true that if they have been in cramped situations before, they get stunted with their tail growth?, as I've noticed lots of his veils are 'curled', either on the tips or half way up, he also has a very 'chalky' look to his peach/pink body is this just normal colouration seeing as though his body colour is so pale...could he be half Albino maybe? Just wanna make sure he is in best of health before I continue on my Betta journey with these beautiful creatures x x x

The coating to his colouration is...wait for it ...only way to describe it is like grease, but chalky looking and white, he seems very active, eating out of my fingers already! I am feeding him on 'Hikari Betta Bio-Gold', but gonna add frozen bloodworm (1 or 2 only) in next couple a days.........

Such a little character already, he's been swimming in out of the 2 Samurai figurines as if to say ...."C'mon....I'll take you both!"

God, I do wonder about my mental state of health sometimes........lol :fun:

I'd call him ghost, simply because he looks like one in those pics  lovely fish you've got there by the way :good:

The 'chalky' look I don't know about I'd need some better pictures. Curled fin rays are fairly normal, it means that at some point he's either been in a fight and had his fins ripped, or had finrot. Neither of those situations too surprising given the way commercial hatcheries and pet stores keep their bettas. The fins grow back, but often the rays on veiltail and halfmoon (long) fins are curled.

He's absolutely stunning, very unique colours. I can't resist oddball VTs either.

EDIT: The water stats you posted are great, but the ammonia reading is missing, do you have it?
Is the tank cycled?

my test kit does not do an ammonia reading just Nitrite,Nitrate,KH,PH is it one of those?...have added stats above.......I think the chalkish look to him might be part of his colouration from looking at pics on web of albino and pastels.....he is a 1 of a kind ain't he? I luuuurve him, hope he settles in well....can't stop watching him.......

AKIRA - Japanese unisex name meaning 1) "bright" or 2) "clear."

CHINATSU - meaning a thousand summers

So far it's a toss up with the names......lol...it's burning my head out! LOL X
